ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Purpose of Position: The Maintenance Technician repairs and maintains equipment, production machines, tools, and facility systems to support safe, efficient, and reliable operations. This position also supports facility cleanliness, shop and office maintenance needs, inventory of consumable supplies, and recycling/waste removal activities, including cardboard, wood, skids, metals, plastics, municipal waste, water, and fluids.

Core Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Equipment, Preventive Maintenance, and Facility Support

  • Performs preventive maintenance tasks as assigned, reports completion, and recommends improvements to the preventive maintenance system.
  • Assists with installation, setup, and qualification of new equipment in accordance with manufacturers' specifications and supervisor direction.
  • Repairs and maintains production equipment, machines, pneumatic tools, and basic facility systems within skill level and assigned responsibility.
  • Reads and interprets electrical and mechanical drawings as needed to complete maintenance tasks.
  • Replaces light bulbs and repairs facility emergency lighting units and exit signs.
  • Performs light plumbing work, including drain opening, leak repairs, and faucet replacement.
  • Uses basic carpentry skills to support facility needs, including building shipping crates per sketch or under direction from senior maintenance technicians.
  • Operates measuring devices, woodworking hand tools, and approved material-handling equipment, including lift trucks, powered scaffolding, and dump bins, when trained and authorized.

Inventory, Supplies, Recycling, and Waste Management

  • Maintains inventory of consumable items and initiates restocking requests for supplies such as cleaning supplies, saw blades, electrical components, fasteners, departmental PPE, and lubricants.
  • Proactively refills and restocks essential shop and facility supplies.
  • Communicates with outside service providers and assists with recycling and waste removals.
  • Reports waste removals and manifests to the Maintenance Supervisor or designated company representative.
  • Assists with wood grinding, scrap collection, and proper disposal of materials.

Shop, Office, and General Facility Support

  • Assists with a variety of tasks across shop and office areas while maintaining a flexible, team-oriented attitude.
  • Performs interior and exterior cleaning duties to uphold facility standards, including sweeping, vacuuming, and maintaining walkways, workstations, and break areas.
  • Assists production teams and supports facility improvement initiatives, special projects, and seasonal cleanups as directed.
  • Organizes job materials, tools, and supplies, ensuring proper placement, accurate labeling, and safe movement between departments.
  • Assists in office relocations, including moving furniture, dismantling/reassembling cubicles, relocating phones/computers, and rerouting computer wiring as assigned.
  • Wears required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follows all company safety procedures.
  • Works in and maintains a safe working environment.
  • Works overtime or extended hours as directed to fulfill company needs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the company.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.

  • Previous maintenance, facility, manufacturing, woodworking, or related hands-on experience preferred.

  • Proven ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel to complete preventive maintenance tasks, documentation, and reporting; PowerPoint experience is optional.

  • Basic proficiency with hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and material-handling equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret written instructions, maintenance documentation, numerical data, and basic mechanical/electrical information.

  • PLC ladder logic knowledge is preferred but not required.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness, safety, efficiency, and quality.

  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information, develop practical solutions, and collaborate with others.

  • Self-motivated, hardworking, reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Ability to work efficiently under time constraints in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to understand Spanish is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and work in shop, production, exterior, or facility areas that may include dust, noise, seasonal temperatures, and other manufacturing conditions. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and perform manual tasks for several hours throughout the day. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
