Job Title: 2nd Shift Maintenance Technician

Job Description

The 2nd Shift Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on manufacturing equipment, facility systems, and production support equipment. This role requires advanced technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation systems to maximize equipment uptime, ensure safety, and support efficient production operations on the second shift.


Responsibilities


+ Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control system failures on manufacturing and facility equipment.

+ Troubleshoot production equipment, automation systems, PLCs, VFDs, motors, sensors, and industrial control systems to quickly resolve issues.

+ Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities according to established schedules to reduce unplanned downtime.

+ Install, modify, and upgrade manufacturing equipment and facility systems to support production and reliability goals.

+ Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to plan and execute maintenance tasks accurately.

+ Perform root cause analysis on recurring equipment issues and implement corrective actions to prevent future failures.

+ Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns during the second shift to minimize production interruptions and maintain throughput.

+ Collaborate closely with production personnel to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment-related issues impacting quality or efficiency.

+ Support new equipment installations, including setup, commissioning, and validation activities to ensure proper operation.

+ Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability, productivity, and safety within the manufacturing environment.

+ Maintain and service facility systems including HVAC, compressed air systems, plumbing, and building infrastructure to ensure reliable operation.

+ Monitor and maintain utility systems to support consistent production and facility performance.

+ Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors for specialized maintenance, repairs, and projects as needed.

+ Complete maintenance work orders and related documentation accurately and promptly within the CMMS system.

+ Maintain detailed records of repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance activities to support compliance and continuous improvement.

+ Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and applicable codes in all maintenance activities.

+ Participate in safety audits, inspections, and training programs to promote a strong safety culture.

+ Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other Maintenance Technicians and Maintenance Apprentices to build team capability.

+ Assist in developing and refining maintenance procedures, standards, and best practices.

+ Participate in cross-functional teams to improve equipment reliability, maintenance processes, and overall manufacturing performance.


Essential Skills


+ High School Diploma or GED.

+ 5+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.

+ Experience troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment in a production setting.

+ Strong knowledge of electrical systems up to 480V (preferred but highly valued).

+ Experience with PLC troubleshooting (preferred and strongly beneficial).

+ Proven ability to perform mechanical systems repair and troubleshooting on production equipment.

+ Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting and diagnostics for industrial systems.

+ Experience maintaining pneumatic and hydraulic systems used in manufacturing operations.

+ Hands-on experience with PLC, HMI, VFD, and industrial automation troubleshooting.

+ Experience using CMMS software to manage work orders, maintenance schedules, and documentation.

+ Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment commonly used in industrial maintenance.

+ Demonstrated advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

+ Strong attention to detail when performing maintenance tasks, documentation, and safety checks.

+ Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

+ Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks and priorities.

+ Commitment to safety and continuous improvement in all aspects of maintenance work.

+ Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities.

+ Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.

+ Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally move up to 35 pounds.

+ Ability to work at heights and in varying environmental conditions within an industrial setting.

+ Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, or on-call schedules as required.

+ Ability to use personal protective equipment and maintain good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination.


Additional Skills & Qualifications


+ Technical degree, trade school certification, or equivalent military experience in a related field (preferred).

+ Experience in continuous improvement initiatives with practical examples of improving manufacturing processes.

+ Background in lean manufacturing with demonstrated success in reducing waste and improving efficiency.

+ Electromechanical troubleshooting experience with systems combining electrical and mechanical components.

+ Experience as a maintenance technician overseeing aspects of a production floor such as scheduling, safety, and quality support.

+ Welding, fabrication, and machining skills (preferred).

+ Familiarity with lockout/tagout procedures and safe energy isolation practices.

+ Experience in a modern, technology-driven manufacturing environment with industry 4.0 concepts (preferred).

Work Environment


This role operates in a manufacturing and industrial environment with exposure to moving machinery, noise, dust, and varying temperatures. The facility is air-conditioned and features modern, state-of-the-art equipment aligned with industry 4.0 technology. The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing portable ladders, and working in confined spaces and at heights. You will regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds and must have good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination to safely use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment. Personal protective equipment is required and provided, and all work follows strict safety procedures including lockout/tagout practices. The schedule is primarily Monday through Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. on second shift, with a shift differential and some availability on Fridays, including occasional mandatory Friday work and potential emergency response outside normal working hours.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $40.00/hr.
