    Description

    Job Summary

    The Maintenance Specialist maintains the physical integrity, safety, and overall operational functionality of health center facilities and grounds. This role performs routine preventive maintenance, general repairs, mechanical troubleshooting, and safety inspections across clinic locations to ensure a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for patients and staff.

    Essential Functions

    • Perform routine repairs and preventive maintenance on building structures, plumbing, basic electrical systems, fixtures, and clinical facility hardware.

    • Conduct regular facility walkthroughs and inspections to identify safety hazards, maintenance needs, and environmental compliance issues.

    • Respond promptly to work orders, facility repair requests, and urgent facility emergencies.

    • Perform basic carpentry, drywall patching, painting, door/lock repair, and light equipment assembly.

    • Assist with groundskeeping, outdoor safety, waste management, and seasonal building upkeep.

    • Log and document completed work orders, maintenance schedules, and routine equipment service records.

    • Assist with moving office furniture, reconfiguring clinic spaces, and unloading heavy deliveries.

    • Maintain strict adherence to OSHA safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and facility policy.

    Qualifications & Requirements

    • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent; trade school or technical training preferred.

    • Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of general building maintenance, facility repairs, or trade experience (healthcare setting preferred).

    • Licensure: Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record required.

    • Certifications: OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Certification or trade certifications (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing) highly desirable.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Practical knowledge of facility mechanics, hand/power tools, plumbing fixtures, and general building repairs.

    • Strong troubleshooting and manual repair skills.

    • Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and react calmly to facility emergencies.

    • Good interpersonal and communication skills to work respectfully around clinical staff and patients.

    Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

    • Physical Demands: Requires continuous standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

    • Working Conditions: indoor clinical spaces and outdoor grounds exposure; occasional exposure to machinery noise and varied weather conditions.

    • OSHA Rating: Medium.
