Role Overview
The Facilities Maintenance Technician (FMT) I/II performs skilled and semi skilled maintenance and repair of District buildings and facilities. The role operates a wide range of tools/equipment and supports furniture moves, space reconfigurations, event setup/teardown, and general repairs (carpentry, painting, basic plumbing, flooring, lighting). Level "I” is entry-level with routine assignments and close supervision; Level "II” is journey-level, performing the full range of duties with general supervision.
Assignments primarily support:
End user hardware/software setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
Helpdesk activities using systems like ServiceNow.
Inventory and equipment movement.
Key Responsibilities
Perform skilled carpentry tasks: fabricate/repair doors, frames, windows, partitions, shelving, cabinetry, counters.
Operate hand/power tools and equipment (saws, drills, ladders, hammers, air compressors, painting equipment, forklifts, aerial lifts, trucks).
Move office furniture; break down and set up work areas; adjust modular office components; recommend configurations; construct interior walls and install suspended ceilings.
Perform basic plumbing tasks (e.g., change/replace restroom fixtures, drinking fountains, valve stems/washers/vacuum breakers); keep fixtures in working condition.
Replace lighting (bulbs, tubes, flood lamps) in offices and parking lots.
Maintain parking areas; stripe lines; set forms; perform asphalt/concrete repairs and finishing.
Patch/repair drywall, stucco; paint interiors/exteriors; replace ceiling tiles; perform minor roofing repairs.
Install floor coverings (vinyl, carpet, tile), counters (formica, ceramic, marble), hydraulic/mechanical doors; perform minor lock repairs.
Estimate time, materials, and equipment; order supplies as needed.
Support recycling functions (including shredding) across District facilities.
Set up/tear down onsite and offsite events (chairs, tables, podiums, canopies; layout coordination). Adhere to safety policies; serve as a disaster service worker as required by California Government Code Section 3100.

Required Experience
Required:
1+ year of facilities maintenance, field maintenance, or general construction experience.
Preferred:
Demonstrated journey level proficiency across multiple trades (painting, plumbing, carpentry, drywall finishing, flooring installation).
Experience moving/setting modular office systems and supporting large events/logistics.
Prior experience estimating jobs and procuring materials
Required Skills
Technical Skills:
Building Trades: Carpentry (doors, frames, partitions, cabinetry), drywall (patching, finishing), stucco, painting (interior/exterior), minor roofing repairs.
Plumbing (basic): Fixture replacement/repair (restrooms, fountains), valve stems/washers/vacuum breakers.
Electrical (basic): Lighting replacement (bulbs, tubes, flood lamps); familiarity with electrical principles (for Level II).
Flooring & Surfaces: Install vinyl, carpet, tile; counters (formica/ceramic/marble).
Equipment Operation: Hand/power tools; forklifts and aerial lifts (certifications to be obtained/held as applicable).
Site & Logistics: Furniture moves, modular systems adjustments, parking lot striping, concrete/asphalt formwork and repairs; event setup/teardown.
General: Ability to estimate labor/materials and order supplies; basic desktop software use.
Soft Skills:
Clear, concise verbal and written communication.
Strong working relationships; teamwork and customer service mindset.
Ability to follow safety regulations/policies and exercise judgment under general supervision (especially at Level II).

Education / Certifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Driver's License: Valid California Driver's License and satisfactory driving record may be required when driving is an essential function of the position (specified in job posting).
