The General Maintenance Mechanic reports to the General Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor and the Plant Operations Manager. The position is responsible for performing routine preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment across all Waubonsee Campuses. Additionally, the role includes performing basic electrical and plumbing maintenance tasks.  

Responsibilities
The General Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks to ensure the proper functioning and upkeep of Waubonsee campuses. These responsibilities include preventative maintenance as well as repairs as follows:

HVAC:  Primarily preventative maintenance tasks such as changing air filters, replacing belts, and greasing equipment as well as supporting other mechanical systems as needed. Restart air handler units as needed.  Basic understanding of HVAC systems including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration principles.

Plumbing:  Diagnose and repair plumbing issues such as fixing leaks, unclog drains, replacing damaged pipes or fixtures.  Identifying root cause of plumbing issues and developing solutions.

Electrical:  Install new electrical systems including wiring, outlets, lighting, ballasts, etc.  Diagnose and repair electrical problems such as faulty wiring, malfunctioning equipment, and tripped breakers. 

Completing basic carpentry tasks such as fixing damaged or deteriorated woodwork, install/repair cabinetry, shelving, trim, cove base, hang/remove pictures, storage units, dry erase boards.

Locksmith:  Troubleshoot issues with manual and automatic door locking mechanisms. 

Painting:  Surface preparation, paint application, color matching, patching and minor repairs to drywall, maintain /cleaning of paint equipment and tools.
Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings preferred

Maintaining cleanliness and organization in workrooms, warehouses, and storage areas.

Utilize approved vendor websites to order supplies to complete jobs (minor tools, bulbs, ballasts, Order necessary materials and supplies from approved vendor websites to complete tasks.

Provide assistance to General Maintenance Mechanics as required.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum of two years of experience in a related maintenance field such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or general facilities maintenance.
Possession of a valid drive
