This is apprentice level skilled trades work related to maintenance of all city buildings, facilities, and property making minor carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing repairs. Work is performed under general supervision of the Maintenance Trade Specialist II or III and is subject to inspection while in progress and upon completion. The Maintenance Trade Specialist I performs a variety of entry-level, skilled work including: carpentry duties; painting duties to include sanding, priming, and painting surfaces; minor plumbing work such as installing sinks, toilets and fountains; minor roof repairs; refinishing floors; minor electrical work; and other related maintenance jobs. Qualified applicants should have knowledge and ability to operate hand tools, perform basic repair and maintenance skills, and other related skills as assigned appropriate for an entry-level maintenance worker. Knowledge of standard maintenance practices, methods, tools, materials, and equipment of one or more of the building or mechanical trades is preferred and a plus. The typical work schedule is 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday; however; work can be assigned outside this schedule to include weekends, holidays, and evenings, as required. The ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under hot and humid conditions is also involved. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and other employees is required. Applicants must also have a valid Florida Driver's License and have the ability to operate City vehicles.
