About the Opportunity

The City of Ventura is hiring! We're now accepting applications for a part-time, extra-help Maintenance Trainee. This is a great opportunity to join the City and gain hands-on experience in field maintenance work that directly impacts our community spaces. The current vacancy is in the Parks & Recreation department.

What You'll Do:

Urban Forestry

This position will primarily require driving a City vehicle along an assigned water route to support the care of newly planted trees. Duties include filling and maintaining water bags, ensuring trees are properly staked and supported, and performing light weeding and general upkeep of tree wells. The Maintenance Trainee will also help monitor tree health, identify basic maintenance needs, and assist with routine landscaping tasks.

This is a temporary part-time "extra help" at-will position. Extra help positions work less than 1,000 hours per fiscal year (July 1 - June 30), subject to budget availability and agency needs. This position may require working a rotational schedule, including weekends and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications - Required

Combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Desirable: related experience and knowledge of common tools used in landscape maintenance and plant care, and the operation of small motorized equipment.

License: Possession of a valid California Class C driver license and an acceptable drivers record, or ability to obtain drivers license prior to appointment, may be required.
