Special Information:
This position may be eligible for a statutory base pay increase of $1.00 an hour effective July 1, 2026.
Identity of applicants who become finalists may be released to the public if the Department deems it necessary. Employees who exceed 1,040 hours in a calendar year are also provided health, dental and life insurance. Other benefits include retirement, paid vacation, sick and holidays. This position may be covered by a VEBA (Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Association).

This is a .85 full-time position, 1760 hours per year. Typical work hours will be Monday through Thursday 40 hours per week, April through mid-December. Hours will be reduced to 20 to 30 hours per week mid-December through March.
Weekend and Holiday work may be required. Additionally, the Maintenance Worker 1 position may be delegated to periodic on-call responsibilities responding to maintenance needs.
Maintenance Worker 1 is part of the Parks and Outdoor recreation division and a member of the regional maintenance team. This position reports to the Maintenance Team Supervisor. They will perform a wide variety of routine maintenance and grounds keeping by maintaining buildings, grounds, facilities, roads and trails.
The Maintenance Worker 1 will ensure that all FWP sites are maintained for public use and safety.
Job Duties:
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking a dependable, motivated individual to support the maintenance and operations of State Parks, Wildlife Management Areas, and Fishing Access Sites throughout the Helena area and along the Missouri River corridor. This entry‑level position works both independently and alongside regional maintenance staff to ensure public lands remain safe, clean, and enjoyable for all visitors. Students and early‑career applicants are encouraged to apply. Field training will be provided.
This position is well‑suited for someone who enjoys hands‑on, outdoor work; is mechanically inclined; and takes pride in maintaining public lands for recreation. The strongest candidates will be adaptable, dependable, and comfortable managing a diverse workload in a dynamic environment.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):
The knowledge, skills, and abilities of this position are normally attained through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or equivalency and 1 year of job-related experience. Other combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
