Dickinson's Water District is hiring dependable, hardworking individuals to support our Construction and Water & Wastewater Operations teams. We currently have two openings:

  • One Full-Time Maintenance Worker I
  • One Seasonal Maintenance Worker I (anticipated through August 31, 2026) supporting operations during an employee military leave. High-performing seasonal employees may be considered for future full-time opportunities as business needs allow.

No utility experience? No problem. We provide training for motivated individuals who are ready to learn, work safely, and grow with our organization.

What You'll Do

Assignments may vary based on department and operational needs.

Construction

  • Assist with installation and repair of water and wastewater infrastructure
  • Perform excavation, trenching, pipe installation, and site restoration
  • Operate hand tools and construction equipment
  • Support crew leaders with daily construction projects
  • Assist with traffic control and job site safety

Water & Wastewater Operations

  • Maintain and repair water distribution and wastewater collection systems
  • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance
  • Assist with utility repairs and emergency response
  • Operate equipment including dump trucks, backhoes, jet trucks, pumps, and related equipment
  • Participate in rotating on-call assignments (full-time positions)

Employees are encouraged to obtain:

  • TCEQ Water Distribution Class D License
  • TCEQ Wastewater Collection Class I License

With continued experience and certifications, employees may become eligible for advancement into Equipment Operator and higher-level operational positions.

What You Bring

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Strong attendance and dependability
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work safely as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Utility, construction, or public works experience
  • Heavy equipment experience
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • Basic computer skills
  • TCEQ licenses or ability to obtain them

Work Environment

This position requires frequent lifting, walking, climbing, bending, digging, and working outdoors in all weather conditions. Employees may be exposed to uneven terrain, traffic, confined spaces, and utility infrastructure. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided.

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening
  • Participation in required safety training
  • Required vaccinations, as applicable
  • Full-time employees must participate in the rotating on-call schedule as assigned
