Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, 2002 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX  |  Full-Time | 2,080 hrs/year | 24/7 rotating shift coverage (7:30 AM–4:00 PM / 3:30 PM–12:00 AM / 11:30 PM–8:00 AM)

Position Overview

We are seeking a Maintenance Worker to support the Facilities Management Service Line at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, TX. This role supports licensed trades with routine maintenance tasks and general building upkeep across a continuously operating healthcare facility.

Key Responsibilities

●       Perform routine maintenance tasks in support of licensed trades, including basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and general building upkeep.

●       Assist journeyman trades with preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs by staging materials, disassembling and reassembling components, and performing simple repairs under supervision.

●       Conduct building walk-throughs, identify obvious deficiencies, and initiate electronic work orders for correction.

●       Maintain shop and work areas in a clean, orderly, and safe condition; manage tools and materials as directed.

●       Complete work assignments requiring judgment on methods and procedures, including improvising changes to techniques when component aging or circuit modifications have changed operating conditions.

●       Complete work orders with documented labor hours, materials, and description of work performed.

Qualifications & Experience

●       5+ years of related facilities experience.

●       General building maintenance experience.

●       Ability to support licensed trades.

●       Facility inspection and work order experience.

●       Basic HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry support skills.

●       English proficiency (read/write/speak); resume demonstrating relevant experience with supporting licenses/certifications.

●       Must meet VA training requirements, pass OIG exclusion screening, and meet healthcare facility immunization/infection-control requirements.

Compensation

$34–$38/hour, depending on experience and certifications. Local hourly bill rate — Houston, TX market.
