    About the Opportunities

    We are excited to announce multiple full-time, permanent opportunities for Maintenance Workers in the Parks and Sewer / Collections divisions within Public Works. The eligibility list created could be used to fill any Maintenance Worker I vacancies within the department of Public Works.

    Parks Division

    In this division, you will help maintain the City''s parks, sports fields, landscaped medians, playgrounds, and public facilities. Duties include landscape maintenance, operating landscaping and construction equipment, maintaining athletic fields, assisting with irrigation and tree maintenance, and supporting other Public Works divisions as needed.

    Sewer / Collections Division

    In this division, you will perform manual labor and operate heavy equipment to maintain sewer mains, laterals, and manholes. Duties include cleaning sewer lines, operating combination trucks, performing inspections to prevent flooding, and responding to emergency sewage spills or blocked systems.

    Your Key Responsibilities may include:

    • Infrastructure & Grounds Maintenance: Maintaining City parks, landscaped areas, sewer infrastructure, and public facilities to establishede service standards.

    • Manual Labor: Performing physically demanding work including digging, lifting, shoveling, mowing, trimming, and other maintenance tasks.

    • Equipment Operation: Safely operating hand and power tools, landscaping equipment, trucks, and other specialized equipment used in maintenance and construction activities.

    • Emergency Response: Responding to emergency calls for service, including sewer backups, storm-related incidents, and other Public Works emergencies after hours and on weekends.

    Qualifications

    Education: High School Diploma or equivalent GED.

    Experience: One (1) year of full-time experience in semiskilled construction, maintenance, landscape maintenance, or a closely related field.

    Licenses & Certifications:

    • Possession of a valid California Class C Driver''s License with a satisfactory driving record.

    • Must obtain a Class B California Driver's License with required endorsements within six (6) months of hire.

    • Parks Division: Ability to obtain certifications or training required to safely perform assigned duties.

    • Collections Division: Must obtain a CWEA Grade I Collections Certificate within one (1) year.

    Knowledge and Abilities:

    • A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.

    • Knowledge of safety hazards and applicable safety precautions.

    • Ability to think and act quickly in emergency situations.

    • Ability to meet physical requirements, including lifting up to 100 pounds and performing physically demanding work in a variety of weather conditions.

    • Effective communication skills and the ability to follow complex verbal and written instructions.

    • Ability to report to work any hour of the day or night during a disaster or other emergency situations.
