JOB SUMMARY
The Maintenance I - Athletic Fields position is responsible for maintaining athletic fields, park grounds, and recreational facilities to provide safe, attractive, and game-ready spaces for the community. The Maintenance Worker I - Athletic Field is responsible for the following duties, but not limited to:
- Maintains athletic fields including lining and grooming of fields, fences, dugouts, goals, infields, bases and nets
- Field preparation and maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, and dragging athletic fields to ensure they are game-ready
- Measure and lay out field markings for various sports, such as soccer, baseball, and football, according to official specifications
- Perform turf care and repair, including seeding, fertilizing, and applying topdressing to maintain optimal playing conditions
- Conduct routine safety inspections of athletic fields, bleachers, and surrounding areas to ensure a safe environment for users
- Performs general preventive maintenance and repair
- Needs to be familiar with heavy equipment operation
- Removes garbage and disposes of properly
- Performs all seasonal work assignments (e.g. snow removal, salting, ice rink maintenance, etc.)
- Performs set-up and tear-down for programs and special events
- Maintains all tools, equipment, and machinery as necessary
- Routinely inspects park furnishings and landscaping (walkways, parking lots, picnic tables, bleachers, grills, benches, backstops, etc.). Identifies and repairs or reports any failures or hazards
QUALIFICATIONS
- Qualified applicants must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 1-2 years of relevant experience.
- A valid IL Driver's License is required.
- Illinois turf pesticide applicators license preferred. Must obtain First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification upon hire.
SCHEDULING
This is a full-time, year-round, hourly (non-exempt) position working Tuesday through Saturday, from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is subject to change with seasonal requirements. Additional availability required for overtime, special events and weather-related duties. The target hiring range is $25.64-$27.88, depending on qualifications. The full pay range is $25.64-$34.61.
