Reno-Sparks Indian Colony: Who We Are

The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony (RSIC) is a federally recognized tribal government dedicated to the economic and social advancement of its people. Established in the early 1900s and formally recognized under the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934, the RSIC represents over 1,100 members of the Paiute, Shoshone, and Washoe Tribes—Three Tribes, One Nation. Our lands include the original 28-acre Colony in central west Reno and a 1,920-acre community in Hungry Valley, located 19 miles north of the Colony in the scenic Eagle Canyon region of Nevada. The RSIC is a vibrant and growing organization that honors traditional teachings and cultural heritage while embracing modern business practices and innovative governance. The Full-Time Maintenance Worker I position at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony offers a diverse and engaging role focused on the repair, maintenance, and minor construction of RSIC buildings, residences, and facilities. In this hands-on position, you will utilize your carpentry, mechanical, and painting skills to tackle a variety of tasks, such as constructing fences, maintaining drainage structures, and operating essential equipment like tractors and dump trucks. You will engage in landscape construction, sprinkler system installation, and grounds maintenance, while also performing basic mechanical upkeep on pumps and motors.

From assisting with street repairs to installing cabinets and doors, no two days will be the same. Would you be a great Maintenance Worker I?

To thrive as a Full-Time Maintenance Worker I with the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, candidates should possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate along with a valid Nevada driver's license, ensuring eligibility for the RSIC Vehicle Insurance Program. A strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, is crucial for collaboration and reporting. Prospective employees must demonstrate physical stamina, as the role involves consistent and extended work in various environmental conditions, including bending, lifting, and manual labor.

Candidates should bring at least four years of experience in basic maintenance and construction, or a combination of relevant education and hands-on experience. Additionally, the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License within six months and First Aid and CPR certification within one year is essential for maintaining safety standards and enhancing operational effectiveness. This position is ideal for those ready to apply their skills in a fulfilling and supportive community-oriented environment.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • A high school diploma or G.E.D certificate at time of hire;
  • age twenty-one (21) at time of hire;
  • eligibility for the RSIC Vehicle Insurance Program which includes a valid Nevada Driver’s license;
  • ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License within six (6) months from date of hire;
  • ability to perform consistent and extended physical work including bending, stooping, lifting, pulling
  • and other activities in a variety of environmental conditions;
  • ability to successfully communicate in English both verbally and in writing;
  • at least four (4) years of prior experience performing basic maintenance and construction work or a combination of equivalent education and experience; and
  • ability to obtain a First Aid and CPR certification within one (1) year of employment.
