Description
Department of Public Works Division Streets and Bridges is seeking a Maintenance Worker II to perform manual and some semi-skilled labor involving repairs or maintenance in the general construction, repair, and maintenance of city sidewalks, streets, and bridges and other related duties.
The Department of Public Works builds, maintains, and operates the physical facilities that support and enhance the lives of Norfolk's citizens, businesses, and visitors, including the City's Storm Water System, Street Network and Waste Management and Recycling Systems. The Department is comprised of 8 divisions that function collectively to make your commute safe and efficient, your neighborhood more attractive, and the streets and sidewalks clean and well-maintained.
The Streets and Bridges Division perform maintenance and repairs of approximately 2,012 lane miles of streets, 968 sidewalks, 1,225 miles of curb line, 58 bridges and waterfront structures within the public right-of-way, and oversees the pavement resurfacing program. The Division of Streets and Bridges perform snow and ice removal and assists in storm debris removal.
Hiring Salary Range: $43,264-$49,646.44
(Additional $5,000 CDL Stipend upon obtaining Commercial Driver's License)

Education/Experience
Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines. Level of knowledge equivalent to high school or equivalency.
One year as a Maintenance Worker, or successful completion of the Operations Apprentice program based on assignment.
Additional Information & Requirements
Preferred License(s) and/or Certification(s): Must possess Driver's License. Must provide a copy of Division of Motor Vehicle driving record (obtained within last 30 days) during the interview.
Must obtain a class B commercial driver's license within six months of employment with the City.
May require obtaining Pesticide license.
Work Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; 40 hours per week every week

Temporary/seasonal and part-time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union.
Retirement
If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
