Together, we connect active, engaged New Yorkers to build stronger communities.Position The Coney Island YMCA is seeking a Maintenance Worker/Porter who will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing assigned areas, including mopping, dusting, and trash removal. The Maintenance Worker/Porter may also be required to perform duties such as window washing, meeting setup, pool cleaning, snow removal, groundskeeping, and other related responsibilities.Key Responsibilities Ensure the Coney Island YMCA is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintaining the upkeep of the assigned area and equipment.Perform wet and dry mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, seasonal lawn care, and snow removal.Operate related motorized and non‑motorized equipment.Record and report all needed repairs and make repairs as directed.Ensure the Y building and property are secure during the shift and report incidents or hazardous conditions to the supervisor.Replace soap, paper towels, and other supplies.Set up furniture and/or rooms for events.Strip and wax floors and shampoo rugs as needed.Follow the standards of the DOH, DOB, FDNY, HPD, and ECB Departments.Follow YMCA Housekeeping Policies and Procedures.Desired Skills & Experience High School Diploma or equivalent required.Minimum of six (6) months of related experience.Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment, and a basic understanding of equipment upkeep.Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals and their safe, efficient use.Obtain a YMCA Housekeeping Certificate within one (1) year of attaining the position.Ability to work in conditions that may create dirt and dust.Ability to perform essential maintenance on facility or equipment, including: semi‑reaching to full‑reach overhead, crouching, kneeling, shoveling, carrying, working in narrow and/or confining spaces; underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs, and lying on stomach or back.Ability to utilize ladders, scaffolding, and motorized lifts up to 30 feet.Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.Ability to safely use hand tools and operate motorized equipment used in daily assignments.Benefits The YMCA of Greater New York offers a variety of benefits to its staff members, including retirement benefits, medical, paid time off, free YMCA membership, and more.
