The Castle Hill YMCA is seeking a Maintenance Worker/Porter who will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing assigned areas, including mopping, dusting, and trash removal. They may also be required to complete duties related to window washing, meeting set-up, pool cleaning, snow removal, groundskeeping, and other related responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the Castle Hill YMCA is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned area and equipment.
  • May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning.
  • Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
  • Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed.
  • Ensures the Castle Hill YMCA building and property are secure during their shift and reports incidents and hazardous conditions to the supervisor.
  • Replaces soap, paper towels, and other supplies.
  • May set up furniture and/or rooms for events.
  • Strip and wax floors and shampoo rugs as needed.
  • Follow the standards of the DOH, DOB, FDNY, HPD, and ECB Departments.
  • Follow YMCA Housekeeping Policies and Procedures.
Desired Skills & Experience:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of related experience and increased area of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment, along with a basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
  • Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe and efficient use.
  • Obtain the YMCA Housekeeping Certificate within one (1) year of attaining the position.
