Maintenance Worker - Facility Operations & Booking Support

Under the supervision of the Facility Operations Manager, this position performs a combination of facility maintenance, event setup/breakdown, customer service, and booking support functions for a busy community facility. This is a hands-on position that requires both physical labor and administrative/computer-based work.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Performs room setups and breakdowns for meetings, programs, rentals, and special events
  • Conducts routine facility and grounds maintenance, including basic electrical, plumbing, sanitation, landscaping, and snow removal duties
  • Maintains cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of the facility and surrounding grounds
  • Assists with facility bookings, rental applications, room scheduling, and customer inquiries
  • Operates and troubleshoots audio-visual equipment including projectors, lighting, laptops, and sound systems
  • Conducts facility tours and support patrons, staff, and rental clients with professional customer service
  • Opens and closes facilities in accordance with established safety and security procedures
  • Responds appropriately to emergencies and assist with public safety responsibilities

Position is designated as emergency personnel and may be required to report during emergencies or inclement weather events.

Clears sidewalks of ice and snow;

Cleans facilities, to include removing trash and litter;

Moves furniture, heavy equipment, and materials;

Performs routine building maintenance tasks (e.g., replacing light bulbs, moving and making minor repairs to furniture);

Performs various landscaping tasks, to include propagating beds, edging, mulching, and planting;

Performs minor building and/or equipment repair and/or maintenance;

Engages in safe working practices and complies with safety programs and guidelines;

Reports unsafe working conditions;

Complies with safety competencies.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Basic knowledge of construction and maintenance of asphalt and concrete;

Working knowledge of small equipment to include weed eater, push mower, power tamper, chain saw, concrete saw and gas generator;

Basic knowledge of air compressors and pneumatic tools;

Knowledge of and the ability to use and perform basic scheduled maintenance on various types of hand tools, machinery, etc.;

Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices;

Ability to perform duties requiring manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude;

Ability to operate various types of motor vehicles;

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions;

Ability to work outside with regular exposure to severe weather, noxious fumes, high levels of dust, etc.;

Ability to perform medium to heavy manual labor;

Ability to comprehend and comply with safety practices;

Ability to maintain effective relationships with customers, employees and supervisors.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to completion of the tenth grade.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

  • Valid drivers license
  • Forklift Safety Training Certificate (required within 12 months of hire)
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (required within 12 months of hire)

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry check, and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

This position is emergency/essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies.)

Additional work schedule requirements: shifts will be mainly nights and weekends

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in an operation involving facility rentals in a recreation center, community center, or similar setting.
  • Experience using audio/visual equipment such as sound systems and video projectors in a professional office environment.
  • Experience providing high quality customer service
  • Experience using RecTrac or a similar recreation software
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Word

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employee will be required to do walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items up to 75 pounds and manipulate heavier objects with the use of hand trucks, dollies, etc. Visual acuity is required to identify roof leaks, etc. Work requires considerable strenuous physical exertion, such as frequent climbing of tall ladders, lawn mowing, and snow shoveling. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
