Description
The purpose of the class is to perform semi-skilled and unskilled work in the maintenance and/or construction of County roads and drainage systems; to drive and operate trucks; to maintain assigned equipment; and to perform other work as required. This class works according to set procedures under close supervision.
Duties
Performs semi-skilled and unskilled work in the construction and maintenance of County roads, driveways, sidewalks and curbs, rights-of-way, stormwater drainage systems and facilities.
May operate dump trucks and light trucks, back hoe, rollers, tractors, mowers, ditch digger, stump cutter, etc.; uses hand and power tools in various manual tasks as required.
Manually loads/unloads materials onto vehicles.
Stakes out, clears and grades areas for road construction.
Constructs and repairs roads.
Cuts grass.
Recycles paper from Schools and County Offices; transports recyclables and cooking oil to convenience sites.
Stacks and wraps electronic waste.
Installs and cleans drainage pipes, gutters, culverts, catch basins, ditches, ponds and other drainage structures.
Keeps roads, ditches and rights-of-way clean and free of debris; removes fallen trees and animal carcasses from roadways and other areas.
Performs routine concrete work.
May operate spray truck for mosquito control in assigned County areas or heavy equipment.
Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of assigned tools and equipment.
Performs all duties in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and standards of quality and safety.
Assists co-workers with various duties as required.
Attends training, meetings, etc., as required to enhance job knowledge and skills.
May be on-call in case of emergency as assigned.
Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED.
Requires at least six (6) months of related work experience.
Additional Requirements
Special Qualifications:
Must possess a valid state driver's license; commercial driver's license (CDL) is desirable.

Work is performed in a relatively safe, secure and stable work environment.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position; typical work 40 hours per week Monday through Sunday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but employees must be available during the "core" work hours of 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and must work 40 hour each week to maintain full-time status. Must be available to work holidays and weekends during emergencies. This is a safety sensitive position and employees holding this position have the responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others. This position is subject to random drug testing.
