Maintenance Worker - Streets

The City of Katy isseeking a dependable and hardworking Maintenance Worker - Streets to join our team and help maintain the beauty, safety, and functionality of City properties and public spaces. This position performs a variety of landscaping and grounds maintenance duties, including mowing, trimming, irrigation support, debris removal, and general outdoor maintenance. The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, works well in a team environment, and is comfortable performing physically demanding work in varying weather conditions. Candidates with experience operating landscaping equipment and knowledge of irrigation systems are encouraged to apply.

SUMMARY: Performs general landscaping duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Trims trees and bushes; cleans gutters; mows and edges grass; applies fertilizer and mulch; sprays weeds; collects trash.
• Participates in City-wide emergency response; clears debris from accidents and weather events; posts advisory and warning signs, conducts traffic control as necessary.
• Performs other duties as required.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES:

High school diploma or equivalent; AND one (1) year of general maintenance experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Driver's License is required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Operating basic landscaping equipment.
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
• Following instructions.
• Understanding of landscape irrigation systems, including repair, service and/or installation, preferred.
• Safety policies, procedures, and practices.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

This position requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Employee may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, and intense noises.
