Help

  • Perform routine safety inspections of power plant.
  • Conduct general purpose cleaning on dam and power plant facilities.
  • Perform painting, carpentry, and plaster repairs of the dam and hydropower plant buildings.
  • Performs general labor functions inside and outside the powerhouse.
  • Perform a variety of tasks in connection with the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of buildings, related structures, fixtures, and grounds at the project and in the operation.
  • Operate various tools such as table saws, drill presses, bench grinders, oxyacetylene cutting torches, hydraulic press, pipe threaders, paint shakers, and various air and electric portable tools.
  • Perform general repairs and labor functions inside and outside the powerhouse.
  • Assist higher-graded mechanics and electricians during major maintenance, repair, and construction jobs.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. Candidates must have the ability to perform common tasks of a Maintenance Mechanic such as: perform common maintenance worker tasks. Use and operate common hand and power tools, equipment, and/or measuring devices of the carpentry, plumbing, and/or painting trades. Have the ability to detect simple deficiencies and perform simple preventive maintenance tasks. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work tasks require that the incumbent be capable of rapid simultaneous mental and muscular coordination in conjunction with eye and hand coordination to operate switches and controls in accordance with meter indications. Machine work, welding, soldering and other specialized tasks require dexterity and the use of both hands. In order to perform the maintenance, inspection and operation of power station equipment, the incumbent must be able to lift and carry heavy objects of 45 pounds and over, climb ladders, reach above the shoulders, stand, sit, crawl and kneel for prolonged periods and perform repeated bending. To use power plant communications, normal speech and hearing are necessary. To recognize color codes, incumbent must have normal correctable vision and normal color vision. The incumbent must be able to operate cranes and motor vehicles.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: The incumbent will work inside around machinery in operation; in close proximity to high and low voltage circuits and climbs stairs frequently. Sometimes work will be performed outside in weather of varying degree of temperature and humidity, in tight or cramped (confined) work spaces, below ground, above water, at heights, on ladders or scaffolds, and on slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Occasionally the incumbent will use solvents, degreasing agents, or other chemical agents, and be assigned to protracted or irregular hours of work; use both hands in water and is exposed to silica, dust, asbestos, oil, grease, constant or excessive noise, vibration, and smoke and gas fumes. Working around machinery with moving parts, moving objects, and moving vehicles is to be expected. The incumbent will be working closely with others and/or alone depending on assigned daily activities. Personal protective safety devices will be supplied to the worker when in an area of hazardous exposure. Examples of devices are hard hats, safety shoes, safety goggles and glasses fresh air breathing masks, gloves, dust and smoke respirators, ear muffs, insulated gloves and safety grounds. When in an area of hazardous exposure, the incumbent will wear the appropriate personal safety device.

The Army, as one of the three military departments (Army, Navy and Air Force) reporting to the Department of Defense, is composed of two distinct and equally important components: the active component and the reserve components. The reserve components are the United States Army Reserve and the Army National Guard.

Regardless of component, the Army conducts both operational and institutional missions. The operational Army consists of numbered armies, corps, divisions, brigades, and battalions that conduct full spectrum operations around the world. The institutional Army supports the operational Army. Institutional organizations provide the infrastructure necessary to raise, train, equip, deploy, and ensure the readiness of all Army forces. The training base provides military skills and professional education to every Soldier—as well as members of sister services and allied forces.
