There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. Applicants resume should document their ability to perform repairs on targets at ranges and transporting materials to/from ranges to be considered. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
PHYSICAL EFFORT
Must have full use of both hands, arms and legs. Makes repairs in hard-to-get places. Work requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping and stretching. Work requires uncomfortable and tiring positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing 60-100 pounds or more with assistance. Must maintain fitness to walk covering distances up to 8 kilometers (approximately 5 miles) carrying equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in shop and on ranges with exposure to rain, heat, cold, dirt, dust, grease, noise, odor, smoke and fumes. Work is subject to rotational shifts, as required, to provide 24 hour range support during training exercises. Worker is subject to cuts from hand or power tools and danger from flying splinters, chips and sawdust. Incumbent is also subject to electrical shock and burns when using electrical equipment or performing maintenance.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

ORGANIZATION
The Army, as one of the three military departments (Army, Navy and Air Force) reporting to the Department of Defense, is composed of two distinct and equally important components: the active component and the reserve components. The reserve components are the United States Army Reserve and the Army National Guard.
Regardless of component, the Army conducts both operational and institutional missions. The operational Army consists of numbered armies, corps, divisions, brigades, and battalions that conduct full spectrum operations around the world. The institutional Army supports the operational Army. Institutional organizations provide the infrastructure necessary to raise, train, equip, deploy, and ensure the readiness of all Army forces. The training base provides military skills and professional education to every Soldier—as well as members of sister services and allied forces. It also allows the Army to expand rapidly in time of war. The industrial base provides world-class equipment and logistics for the Army. Army installations provide the power-projection platforms required to deploy land forces promptly to support combatant commanders. Once those forces are deployed, the institutional Army provides the logistics needed to support them.
Without the institutional Army, the operational Army cannot function. Without the operational Army, the institutional Army has no purpose.
