Description

Position Title: Major Gift Officer Reports to: Vice President of Philanthropy and Alumni Relations Supervises: None

Primary Function: Responsible for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospective donors in the pursuit of College objectives and fund-raising projects. Will serve as an ambassador for the college and work with the Vice President and administration as part of the Philanthropic and Alumni Relations Team to facilitate philanthropic support through individual giving from alumni, parents, and friends of the College.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelors Degree
  • Masters Degree preferred

Experience:

  • Progressive experience with a demonstrated ability to raise philanthropic support through individual giving, preferably in higher education
  • Prior experience in annual major or endowment giving is highly desirable
  • Experience in comprehensive or capital campaigns is highly desirable

Essential Duties:

  • Facilitate moves management, identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, close, and stewardship for a portfolio of 150 to 200 donors and prospects
  • Schedule and perform personal visits with potential donors to cultivate interest and ultimately secure major gifts
  • Develop and present proposals to prospective donors that illustrate opportunities and inspire giving
  • Solicit and close major gifts from alumni, parents, and friends of the College
  • Enter and maintain contact reports and log of all donor interactions in the constituent database, including next steps and targeted dates
  • Plan and execute a high level of activity with the use of research, interaction, and participation in prospect review meetings with departmental staff
  • Assist in identifying and introducing prospects who should be connected to senior leadership and College administration or who indicate capacity and interest in planned giving
  • Maintain regular schedule of stewardship with donors and prospects through visits, calls, email, and written correspondence

Special Challenges and Environment:

  • Presence at scheduled evening and weekend obligations and events, as well as frequent travel, are necessary to be effective in this role.
