Title: Major Gifts Officer, East Region

Location: Boston, MA Hub (Hybrid)

Status: Full Time; Exempt

Salary Range*: $110,000 - $125,000 (IC3/B6)

Facing History & Ourselves is a global education non-profit organization that challenges teachers and students to use lessons of history to stand up to racism, antisemitism, and other forms of bigotry and hate.

The East region of Facing History & Ourselves is seeking a motivated and collaborative Major Gifts Officer (MGO) who will play a critical role in continuing to build and develop Facing Historys base of supporters in the Eastern United States, comprising 11 states and Washington, DC. Joining a national development team of over 30 people across multiple regions, they will partner with Facing Historys organizational leadership and learn from colleagues across the network as they share effective fundraising strategies and best practices. Facing Historys success depends on clear communication, teamwork, and organization.

The MGO will partner with the local development leadership and volunteers to meet and exceed the ambitious fundraising goals for the organization.

Who You Are: You are a passionate advocate for education and the role it plays in the lives of young people. You are an experienced, dynamic, organized, and ambitious fundraiser. You are excited by building relationships and bringing your experience and unique perspective to make the Facing History team stronger.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of at least 100 current and prospective individual donors with the potential to give at the $10k+level.

  • Partner closely with the central prospect research and stewardship teams to identify new donors with major gift potential.

  • Engage targeted constituencies through programs and activities that deepen donor connection and revenue growth, including all relevant major fundraising events as well as other engagement events and strategies.

  • Work with the East Regions Executive Director, Senior Director of Development, Director of Development, and Senior Major Gifts Officer to support the overall health and success of the major gifts program.

  • Work closely with the Sr. Manager, Donor Experiences & Engagement to develop and implement a meaningful stewardship and events calendar including occasional evening and weekend activities.

  • Participate as part of a local and national team to carry out the organizations fundraising strategy in the East region.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Qualities:

  • A minimum of five (5)+ years of progressive fundraising experience, including donor cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation. Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated frontline solicitation work and past success securing major gifts in a non-profit setting

  • Strong knowledge of moves management and demonstrated ability to successfully develop and implement short, medium, and long-term donor engagement strategies.

  • Confident and engaging relationship-building skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, discretion, and experience building relationships with donors, volunteer leaders, and board members.

  • Excitement around building a pipeline of donors and prospects.

  • Familiarity with the philanthropic and educational landscape in the West

  • Creativity and flexibility a self-starter who thrives in a team environment, bringing both strong collaboration skills and independent initiative.

  • Organization and effective project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and assignments in a fast-paced nonprofit setting.

  • Genuine commitment to the mission of Facing History & Ourselves and ability to articulate the importance and urgency of the organizations work to a variety of audiences.

  • Proficiency with Google office suite; experience with Salesforce or other fundraising databases required.

Remote-first/Hybrid Work Model (Hybrid): Facing History & Ourselves operates under a remote-first/hybrid work model. This position is attached to the East region and Boston Hub - it requires in-person and in-office work as needed, but will otherwise work from home, though you may access an office work space whenever needed. Travel will be required.

  • We strive to offer competitive salaries commensurate with experience in a similar position. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary range between the minimum and midpoint depending on experience and in alignment with internal parity.
