    Job Description

    BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    Responsible for the development and management of a comprehensive, strategic, integrated effort to build the base of individual donors and increase the level of support as well as cultivate donors to become or maintain status as a major gift donor. Manages a major gifts donor portfolio.

    Minimum Education: Bachelors Degree required.

    License/Certification Required: None

    Minimum Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years of fundraising experience preferably in healthcare setting. Successful track record in the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of unrestricted leadership gifts preferred. Volunteer management experience a plus.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • Practical knowledge of major gift operations and an understanding of what it takes to expand donor participation.
    • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge and other Blackbaud programs, Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word and Power Point.
    • Ability to clearly articulate the mission of Dolly Children's.
    • Strong interpersonal, networking, and organizational skills.
    • Superior written and oral communication skills.
    • Able to multi-task, meet deadlines and work collaboratively.
    • Must possess demonstrated integrity, positive attitude, diplomacy, tact, courtesy, and a sense of humor.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Demonstrates a working knowledge of Children’s Hospital in general and its funding priorities, as indicated by articulating a compelling case for support to all constituents and the results it produces.
    • Develops a written effective master plan and calendar for the responsible phases of major gifts fundraising campaigns and adjusts as appropriate. The plan will include established goals and tactics for growing and administering the major gifts giving program.
    • Prepares creative and effective written communications including letters, brochures and other materials for major gift programs and Children’s Hospital publications supporting development goals.
    • Identifies and aggressively seeks the qualification of campaign, major gift and planned gift prospects by cultivating new and major donors.
    • Prepares and submits a thorough and timely quarterly report detailing progress as they relate to program goals and objectives and adjusts performance as the report indicates.
    • Attends activities of the Development Advisory Board.
    • Proactively researches and implements major gifts practices and focuses on increasing funds.
    • Willingly assists with functions such as meetings, volunteer activities, and working at Children’s Hospital events.
    • Initiates supporting other projects and team members as needed, willingly accepts other assignments as necessary to meet the goals of the department.
    • Demonstrates sensitivity and ability to work with diverse groups of individuals.
    • Has the ability to lead others even though may not be the official leader, but rather the leader over the project results. This will be reflected in others willingness to follow this position’s direction.
    • Represents Children’s Hospital to the community in an ethical and professional manner by involvement in appropriate groups, community leaders and other opportunities for connection.
    • Demonstrated public speaking abilities that motivate, inspire and influences individuals and organizations see the value of supporting the mission of Children’s Hospital.
    • Works closely with the Manager of Donor Records to monitor and track major gift programs accurately and timely.
    • Tracks timely and accurate information about prospects including call reports, gift acknowledgements and other data that is important for the maintenance of donor/prospect records.
    • This position is expected to utilize their time wisely, document and maintain useful donor records in the Raiser's Edge system.
    • Evaluates the effectiveness of long term and short-term major giving programs and makes appropriate recommendations.
    • Uses the Raiser’s Edge system to the fullest potential for reporting of donor visits and fundraising efforts. Initiates data mining to support goals.
    • Stays vigilant on identifying and soliciting  new prospects, new concepts, and new markets while maintaining and nurturing existing relationships.
    • Responsible for raising a portion of the department's annual fund-raising goal. The range will be determined annually and progress reported quarterly.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Note: Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
    • Medium lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 20-50 lbs occasionally, 10-20 pounds frequently and 10 lbs constantly to move objects. Sudden emergency situations have the potential for exposure for lifting or moving of up to 100 lbs. Frequent bending, walking, sitting, squatting, reaching, and standing are required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
