Description

Essential Functions:

  • Greets patients and provides instructions on procedures.
  • Reviews patient information and obtains information regarding prior studies.
  • Prepares patients for mammography procedures.
  • Positions patient and adjusts equipment, selecting length and intensity for radiation exposure on individual basis.
  • Follows established standards for patient care and safety using a variety of radiation protection and shielding materials (following FDA and ACR standards).
  • Performs screening and diagnostic mammograms to radiologist’s specifications (under guidance of Lead Interpreting Physician).
  • Ensures equipment is in working order. Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Processes related paperwork using computer equipment as directed.
  • Sends DICOM images to the PACS for documentation and radiologist dictation.
  • Maintains examination rooms. Stocks necessary medical and radiologic supplies. 
  • Must be willing to answer phones and assist with diagnostic radiology exam as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures related to infection control, environmental safety and patient confidentiality as directed by HIPAA and OSHA standards.
  • Knowledge of electronic medical chart reporting and records.
  • Knowledge of medical practice procedures related to the Diagnostic Department and operations
  • Maintains mammography reporting system.
  • Releases information via paper or disk per ACR/FDA standards.
  • Sends paper notification to patients and providers per ACR/FPA standards.
  • In person regular and punctual attendance

 Skills/Abilities:

  •  Must be skilled in customer service and have a pleasant and courteous demeanor while dealing with all patients and callers.
  • Must be well organized and detail organized and be able to work independently without much supervision.
  • Must have skills in critical thinking, communication, influence and decision making.
  • Must have the ability to work cooperatively as a member of office staff and team.
  • Must have computer skills

Mental/Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift / carry / move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires positioning patients.
  • Some stress related to anxious patients.

Qualifications

 Education:

  • Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology or completed accredited course in radiologic technology.

Requirements:

  • Current certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required
  • Mammography Certification preferred at the time of hire, if not held upon hire, it must be obtained within one (1) year of hire date.
  • Current state permit / license as general diagnostic radiographer.
  • Current CPR
