    MAMMOGRAPHY TECHNOLOGIST

    Primary function

    The mammography tech. is responsible for detecting breast tissue abnormalities by completing mammographic imaging studies, presenting them for diagnosis.

    Duties and responsibilities

    Utilizes their abilities as a Mammography Technologist.

    Knowledge of radiologic standards, requirements, and regulations.

    Knowledge of radiologic safety, cleanliness and infection control policies and regulations. Perform proper hand hygiene.

    Accuracy- Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.

    Communication- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

    Computer Skills- Proficient ability to use a computer and electronic medical record.

    Detail Oriented- Ability to pay attention to minute details of a project or task.

    Obtains patient history, explains standard procedures and addresses patient concerns to foster a sense of comfort and confidence to patients and ensure the needs of the individual patients are met.

    Possesses knowledge of equipment.

    Operates radiologic equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes. Positions radiologic equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance according to specification of examination. Takes x-rays following established radiologic requirements and regulations to ensure patient care and safety.

    Utilizes the DR (Digital Radiography) to obtain quality image.

    Ensures radiologic equipment remains in working order. Report equipment malfunctions to Director of Radiology.

    Knowledge of radiologic equipment uses and maintenance.

    Patient Care.

    Prepares patients for radiologic procedure. Escort patients to dressing and x-ray rooms, provide verbal and/or written instructions and assist patient in positioning body parts to be radiographed. Explain procedures and observe patients to ensure patient care, safety, and comfort during exam.

    Customer Service Oriented- Friendly, cheerful, and helpful to patient and others. Ability to meet patients and others needs while following department policies and procedures. Perform A.I.D.E.T on every patient and employee.

    Participates as a Radiology team player.

    Uses radiation safety measures and protection devices to ensure safety of patients and team members.

    Performs related administrative duties including completing necessary forms, labeling images and maintain procedure logs and prior authorization logs.

    Retrieves radiologic orders from and input related into the electronic medical record.

    Maintains adequate radiologic supplies.

    Serves as back-up for clinical team members as needed by controlling patient flow and administering injectables.

    Flexibility- Ability to adapt easily to changing conditions and work responsibilities.

    Teamwork- Work as part of a team and collaborate with co-workers.

    Working under Pressure- Ability to complete assigned tasks under stressful situations.

    Presents self in a professional manner and enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.

    Seeks opportunities for continued growth and performance improvement.

    Always maintains a professional appearance and manner.

    Dependable and completes work in a timely manner.

    Demonstrates and understanding and emphasis on quantity, quality and knowledge of duties and tasks.

    Complies, understands and enforces state and federal regulatory requirements related to the performance of Community Hospital operations and requirements, including but not limited to HIPAA, the Code of Conduct, the Compliance Policy, Safety and Infection Control, all department and organization-wide policies, Critical Access Hospital requirements, and Federal and State of Missouri Regulations

    Maintains confidentiality, in in compliance and follows HIPAA regulations.

    Follows all policies of the hospital and clinic.

    Follows and knows safety policies and procedures.

    Attends all scheduled meetings and participates as part of these meetings.

    Considers the impact of regulations in work that is produced and discusses concerns appropriately to ensure compliance.

    All other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    High School diploma or equivalent required.

    Associate degree or higher in Radiologic Technology preferred

    ARRT Certified Required and must maintain CEU's.

    Associates degree or equivalent education/experience

    Mammographic Radiologic Technology certified.

    Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) required. If required certification is not current at time of hire, must complete within six months.

    Mammography experience preferred.

    Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks and adjust to shifting priorities.

    Working conditions

    Environmentally controlled hospital environment. Fast paced and occasionally high pressure or emergent situations. Exposure to radiation which is minimized using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as protective lead aprons, gloves, thyroid shields, and other shielding devices and monitored by radiation badges. Possible exposure to bodily fluids, infectious specimens, communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a hospital environment. Frequent interaction with a diverse population including team members, providers, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public.

    Serve multiple Age groups - neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric.

    Physical requirements

    Frequent Standing, walking, grasping, carrying, reaching, bending, stooping, and speaking. Occasional sitting. Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds with assistance as needed. May need to lift or turn patients who are disabled, with assistance as needed. Frequent use of computer, keyboard, copy and fax machine and phone.
