Job Summary

This position is located in the District of Columbia Office of the Inspector General (OIG), Inspections and Evaluations Unit (I&E).

OIG is responsible for preventing and detecting fraud, waste, and abuse by conducting audits, criminal and administrative investigations, inspections and evaluations, Medicaid fraud investigations, and other activities related to assessing, reporting on, and improving the efficiency, effectiveness, and fiscal integrity of District of Columbia Government operations and programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Incumbent conducts inspections and evaluations of District agencies, offices, and programs to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of operations, policies, procedures, regulations, and laws. Develops project goals and objectives, participates in project planning and in coordinating, and carrying out inspection and evaluation activities.

Identifies deficiencies and abusive or wasteful practices, recommends appropriate changes through findings and recommendations, and drafts referrals for audit, investigation, or corrective action where inappropriate or where illegal practices are identified. Incumbent may perform data and trend analyses of DCG agency programs to identify operational problems and make recommendations. In addition to her/his own assigned writing responsibilities, Incumbent participates in ensuring the overall accuracy and quality of project-related products published and disseminated to stakeholders.

Qualifications and Education

Applicants must possess (1) year of specialized experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.

Specialized Experience must be equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, such as developing project goals and objectives, recommending changes through findings and corrective action where inappropriate or illegal practices are identified.

Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate-controlled office setting. Some out-of-town travel may be required.
