Position Summary
The Jail Environment Manager is responsible for overseeing the cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and environmental compliance of the jail facility. This position ensures that all housing units, common areas, food service areas, medical spaces, and administrative areas meet established health, safety and regulatory standards. The Environmental Manager supervises staff and inmate work crews assigned to sanitation duties and coordinates inspections, training, and corrective actions as needed.
Pay Grade: 55
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
Minimum Qualifications
- Five (5) years of experience in managerial/supervisory capacity with prior experience in facility management, sanitation, environmental services or corrections preferred; AND
- Bachelor''s degree from an accredited college or university in business administration; or a closely related field; OR
- An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.
- PROOF OF EDUCATION; TRAINING; AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee daily cleaning, sanitation, and environmental operations throughout the jail facility.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Supervise and train staff and inmate workers assigned to environmental regulations.
- Conduct routine inspections of housing units, kitchens, medical areas, and common spaces.
- Identify and correct environmental hazards, sanitation deficiencies, and safety concerns
- Coordinate pest control, waste management, laundry operations, and hazardous material handling.
- Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment.
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and use of cleaning chemicals
- Prepare reports related to inspections, compliance, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Assist with audits, accreditation inspections, compliance, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Performs other related duties as required or directed.
KSAs
- Knowledge of OSHA standards, sanitation practices, and safety procedures
- Ability to supervise staff and inmate work crews effectively
- Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills
- Ability to work in a correctional environment and enforce rules consistently
- Certifications or training in environmental services, safety, or facility management
- Familiarity with accreditation standards (ACA, NCCHC, or TCI)
Physical Requirements
- Work is performed in a secure correctional facility
- May require walking, standing, bending, and lifting
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals and biohazards, with appropriate protective equipment
- Must adhere to all security and safety protocol.
