Summary
Manages the day-to-day operations of Employee Health services within assigned markets and locations. Provides operational leadership for new-hire and pre-placement health screening, immunization and surveillance programs, tuberculosis screening, respirator medical clearance and fit testing, workplace exposure follow-up, fitness-for-duty and return-to-work processes, and other occupational health services.
Supervises and develops Employee Health associates, coordinates workflow and staffing resources, promotes consistent service delivery, and ensures activities are completed in accordance with organizational policy, medical direction, and applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Manages daily Employee Health operations by:
- Planning and coordinating daily workflow, staff assignments, work schedules, time-off requests, and coverage across assigned sites to meet operational and service needs.
- Establishing work priorities, monitoring workload and turnaround times, and adjusting resources to support timely and consistent service delivery.
- Interviewing, hiring, orienting, training, coaching, developing, and evaluating staff in collaboration with the Director.
- Addressing performance, conduct, attendance, and competency concerns in accordance with organizational policy and in consultation with the Director and Human Resources.
- Promoting effective working relationships among Employee Health staff, leaders, Human Resources, clinical departments, and other internal and external partners.
- Ensuring equipment, supplies, forms, clinical resources, and technology needed for effective operations are available and maintained.
- Assisting with budget planning, monitoring expenditures, and identifying operational resource needs.
- Communicating sensitive, complex, high-risk, or unresolved concerns to the Director in a timely manner.
Oversees employee and occupational health services by:
- Ensuring consistent delivery of new-hire and pre-placement health screenings, immunization review and administration, tuberculosis screening, respirator medical clearance and fit testing, drug-screen coordination, and other required health assessments.
- Provides guidance and support to staff in the evaluation, documentation, referral, and follow-up of workplace injuries, blood or body-fluid exposures, communicable-disease exposures, and other occupational health concerns.
- Supporting fitness-for-duty, restricted-duty, accommodated-duty, and return-to-work processes in collaboration with the Director, Workers Compensation, Human Resources, Leave Administration, medical providers, and department leadership.
- Ensuring clinical services are provided within applicable professional scope of practice and are consistent with approved policies, protocols, standing orders, and medical direction.
- Prioritizing associate needs based on urgency, clinical risk, available resources, organizational policy, and the need for timely referral or escalation.
- Providing direct Employee Health services as needed when qualified and authorized to do so.
Implements programs, policies, and compliance activities by:
- Implementing Employee Health initiatives, policies, procedures, and standardized workflows established by system leadership and recommending operational improvements based on staff, associate, and organizational needs.
- Monitoring compliance with applicable occupational health, workplace safety, privacy, regulatory, and accreditation requirements, including requirements related to OSHA, Workers Compensation, infection prevention, and required employee health surveillance.
- Coordinating annual and periodic surveillance programs, vaccination campaigns, compliance activities, and other Employee Health initiatives within assigned markets.
- Overseeing recordkeeping, documentation, data integrity, and reporting processes within the electronic systems used to maintain Employee Health information.
- Conducting routine audits, monitoring quality and service indicators, and implementing corrective actions within the manager role when gaps are identified.
- Preparing operational reports, summaries, and data for leadership, governance committees, regulatory reviews, accreditation activities, and program evaluation.
- Maintaining the confidentiality and appropriate use of medical and employment-related information in accordance with law and organizational policy.
Collaborates and supports organizational programs by:
- Working cooperatively with Human Resources, Infection Prevention, Safety, Workers Compensation, Leave Administration, department leadership, Medical Directors, public-health agencies, laboratories, vendors, and insurance partners.
- Providing operational guidance to leaders and associates regarding Employee Health processes, required follow-up, work restrictions, referrals, and available resources while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
- Supporting communicable-disease investigations, exposure response, outbreak management, emergency preparedness, and other time-sensitive occupational health needs.
- Participating in committees, workgroups, and improvement initiatives related to employee health, infection prevention, workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and associate well-being.
- Providing education and training to staff, leaders, and associates on Employee Health programs, processes, and occupational health requirements.
- Completing other job-related assignments and special projects as directed.

ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies, and department-specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains required license, certification, or registration in good standing throughout the fiscal year.
- Direct patient-care providers maintain current BCLS/CPR and other certifications required by the position or department.
- Consistently uses appropriate standard precautions, personal protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect associates, patients, and self.
- Adheres to regulatory and accreditation requirements, survey processes, and compliance expectations.
- Complies with established organizational and departmental policies.
- Works additional hours, shifts, or schedules when required to meet departmental and organizational needs.
Education:
- A current Registered Nurse license in the applicable state or states of practice is preferred but will consider an LPN with 10+ years of licensure.
- Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in employee health, occupational health, public health, infection prevention, workplace safety, or a related healthcare field is required.
- At least two years of leadership experience, including responsibility for staff direction, workflow coordination, training, and performance management is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
- Requires strong knowledge of employee and occupational health operations, including assessment, referral, documentation, surveillance, exposure follow-up, fitness-for-duty, return-to-work, and regulatory compliance processes.
- Requires working knowledge of relevant federal, state, and accreditation requirements affecting employee health, workplace safety, confidentiality, and occupational health services.
- Demonstrates leadership skills necessary to organize work, establish priorities, manage change, coach staff, and maintain accountability.
- Requires sound judgment and the ability to recognize clinical, operational, regulatory, and employee-relations concerns that require escalation.
- Requires effective verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills to communicate with associates, staff, leaders, providers, and external partners.
- Requires strong organizational, analytical, decision-making, problem-solving, and process-improvement skills.
- Demonstrates proficiency with electronic health records, occupational-health systems, reporting tools, and standard business software.
Working Conditions
- Works in office and clinical environments and may have potential exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, and other occupational hazards. Appropriate safety practices and personal protective equipment are required.
- May need to vary scheduled days and hours, including early morning, evening, or occasional weekend coverage, to meet operational and program needs.
- Travel between assigned locations may be required.
