Bulldog Print + Design is the University of Georgia's full-service print and graphic communications center, providing high-quality printing, graphic design, wide-format printing, bindery, and finishing services to campus departments. As an Administrative Services enterprise within the Finance Division, the department supports the University's academic, research, and administrative missions through innovative, customer-focused print solutions and efficient production operations.

Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent plus 10 years of professional experience to include 3 years of supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of progressively responsible management experience in a commercial or institutional print production environment.
  • Experience supervising multiple functional areas within a print production operation, including digital printing, wide-format printing, bindery, and customer service.
  • Experience managing budgets, revenue-generating operations, vendor contracts, and operational equipment.
  • Experience implementing process improvements, production workflow optimization, and new print technologies.
  • Experience working in a higher education or other large, complex organization

Position Summary

Provides strategic leadership and operational management for Bulldog Print + Design, overseeing all print production, customer service, business operations, staffing, and vendor management functions. Directs daily operations for digital print, wide-format, finishing, and related services to ensure high-quality production, efficient workflow, customer satisfaction, and compliance with University policies and procedures. Develops operational goals, manages departmental resources, and leads continuous improvement initiatives to support campus printing and design needs. Supervises professional and production staff and serves as the primary liaison between Bulldog Print + Design, University departments, external vendors, and administration.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Manage and oversee a team of digital print technicians, bindery staff, and a graphic artist, providing clear communications to engage positive outcomes and the highest level of customer service.
  • Review processes and procedures to identify opportunities to reduce processing time.
  • Meet the needs and demands of the campus while understanding the capabilities of the department's production processes.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills that include the ability to demonstrate good working relationships with employees and customers.
  • Schedule print projects through delegated efforts and establish operational standards.
  • Progressive roles in leadership.

Leadership & Operational Management

  • Direct and oversee all daily operations of Bulldog Print + Design, including print production, customer service, scheduling, workflow coordination, and finishing operations.
  • Establish operational priorities, production standards, and service expectations to ensure efficient and timely completion of projects.
  • Develop and implement departmental goals, policies, procedures, and process improvements to support operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Evaluate workflow, staffing, equipment utilization, and production capacity to optimize department performance.
  • Ensure compliance with University policies, procurement standards, copyright regulations, and environmental/safety requirements.
  • Serve as the primary decision-maker for operational issues, escalated customer concerns, and production-related problem resolution.
  • Assess operational trends, print demand, and emerging technologies to support long-term planning and service enhancements.
  • Recommend equipment upgrades, workflow improvements, and operational restructuring initiatives.
  • Analyze production metrics and operational data to identify opportunities for increased efficiency and cost savings.
  • Support departmental modernization efforts and implementation of new print technologies or software systems.

Staff Supervision & Personnel Management

  • Supervise professional staff, print production personnel, customer service employees, and student workers.
  • Assign and monitor work, establish performance expectations, and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop staff to maintain effective operations and high-quality customer service.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and professional development opportunities to employees.
  • Manage staff scheduling and workload distribution to maintain production coverage and operational continuity.
  • Foster a collaborative and customer-focused work environment.

Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities

Financial & Business Operations Management

  • Develop and manage departmental funds, revenue tracking, and operational expenditures.
  • Monitor departmental financial performance, including sales, cost recovery, and operational efficiency.
  • Serve as a University of Georgia PCard holder, responsible for using the PCard to process authorized departmental purchases in compliance with University policies and procedures.
  • Approve procurement of equipment, supplies, paper, toner, and outsourced production services in accordance with University purchasing guidelines.
  • Review and approve pricing structures, service offerings, and cost estimates for print and production services.
  • Monitor accounts receivable activity and coordinate collection efforts related to outstanding customer balances.
  • Prepare operational and financial reports for leadership and administration.

Print Production & Workflow Oversight

  • Oversee print production scheduling and workflow management to ensure jobs are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Monitor production capacity, equipment utilization, and staffing needs to maintain service levels.
  • Ensure proper coordination of digital printing, wide-format printing, bindery, and finishing operations.
  • Review complex or high-priority jobs to ensure production specifications, quality standards, and deadlines are achieved.
  • Evaluate equipment performance and coordinate maintenance, repair, and replacement planning.

Vendor & Contract Management

  • Establish and maintain relationships with third-party print vendors, equipment providers, and service suppliers.
  • Oversee outsourced production services when projects exceed in-house capabilities or require specialized services.
  • Evaluate vendor performance related to pricing, quality, turnaround time, and reliability.
  • Coordinate service agreements, equipment leases, and vendor contracts in collaboration with University procurement offices.
  • Maintain approved vendor lists and ensure compliance with procurement requirements.

Customer Relations & Campus Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary contact for campus departments regarding print production services, project consultation, and issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with University departments, designers, and administrative units to support institutional printing and branding initiatives.
  • Provide guidance on print specifications, production methods, finishing options, and project planning.
  • Address escalated customer concern and implement service improvements to enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Support and promote the campus digital storefront and ordering systems.
  • Participate in departmental, divisional, and University committees or initiatives.
  • Assist with emergency operational coverage as needed.
  • Support special projects, campus events, or institutional initiatives requiring print and production services.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
