Job Description

Primary purpose:

The Manager-Business Development (Low Carbon) supports the growth of Tallgrass's low-carbon business through new commercial opportunities, business ventures, and initiatives connected to the company's existing asset footprint. This role supports opportunities related to tax credit monetization and strategy, voluntary carbon markets, low-carbon market development, project development, and commercial evaluation.

The position is responsible for conducting detailed market, fundamentals, and financial analysis, including advanced financial modeling, profitability analysis, return on investment and discounted cash flow analysis, competitor and customer intelligence, market analysis, and the development and maintenance of proprietary business models.

Compensation: Compensation ranges are provided in good faith based on what we anticipate when researching wages for this position at the state and national levels. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This salary range may also be modified in the future.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Business, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • Minimum of five years of experience in energy operations, business development, commercial development, project development, or a related field.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, which may include Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Above the minimum requirements, not required but advantageous in this position:

  • Masters of Business Administration (MBA)

  • Advanced knowledge of low-carbon solutions across the CO2 value chain (production, transport, storage, and utilization).

  • Knowledge of Energy Transition Markets.

Compensation:

  • The annual salary range for this position will be $140,000-$180,000/yr.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop a strong understanding of the structure, requirements, and commercial mechanics of low-carbon tax credits (including 45Q, 45Z, etc.).
  • Build internal expertise on tax credit monetization structures, including transferability, tax equity, and related approaches.
  • Work with tax credit marketing partners to consolidate project materials, develop marketing packages, and position the quality and quantity of 45Z tax credits for the market.
  • Support the review and negotiation of tax credit transfer agreements to optimize value for the company.
  • Assist with the procurement of appropriate insurance products associated with tax credits.
  • Build working knowledge of the voluntary carbon market and related commercial and market services.
  • Coordinate with third-party marketers to develop materials and pitch decks for potential carbon dioxide removal credits, or CDRs.
  • Support evaluation and alignment on the preferred registry for CDR issuance and sale.
  • Develop expertise in markets for lower-carbon fuels and products.
  • Serve as an internal commercial resource to teams across International Development, Natural Gas, CO2, and related businesses.
  • Support the development of low-carbon transportation pathways across Tallgrass assets.
  • Track market developments and educate internal commercial teams on opportunities to create incremental value across existing business lines.
  • Develop an understanding of the mechanics and competitiveness of various low-carbon pathways (e.g. LCFS) and end markets.
  • Identify opportunities to extend the value of Tallgrass assets over the longer term.
  • Support the expansion and modification of existing assets, development of new assets, and acquisition of third-party assets that integrate sustainability into the company's portfolio.
  • Support the identification, development, and execution of sustainability-focused CO2 capture, transportation, sequestration, and utilization opportunities for Tallgrass.
  • Assist in developing, negotiating, and executing commercial agreements in coordination with internal departments, including Legal, Finance, Engineering, Operations, Tax, Accounting, Regulatory, and Environmental.
  • Support growth of the company's sustainability portfolio beyond the existing Tallgrass footprint by identifying best practices, technologies, and strategic opportunities.
  • Develop commercial support for off-footprint carbon dioxide projects by evaluating potential investments and project economics.
  • Provide general industry monitoring, market research, and business analysis.
  • Develop strong knowledge of business strategy, competitors, customers, and operations.
  • Maintain awareness of changing market conditions, new developments, competitor strategies, and emerging commercial opportunities.
  • Generate reports and presentation materials for joint venture partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Support modeling and scoping of project economics, as well as the development and submission of commercial proposals.
  • Evaluate strategic opportunities that increase company and/or customer value.
  • Formulate and negotiate commercial terms for revenue-generating agreements.
  • Maintain close contact with customers and joint venture partners to ensure satisfaction with services provided and pursue additional CCUS opportunities.
  • Foster a positive and open work environment through disciplined execution, collaboration, and a solutions-oriented approach.
  • Communicate with management on goals, objectives, priorities, and progress on a regular and consistent basis.
