Overview:

This position is responsible for supervising all drilling engineers as well as coordination with drilling well site superintendents, supervisors, well site safety personnel plus technicians related to the company interest assets for the Business Unit.

 

 

Responsibilities:
  • Lead, direct and supervise the drilling engineers as well as coordinate with drilling well site superintendents, supervisors, safety supervisor and technicians.
  • Ensure safe execution of all wellsite activities with a constant focus on Target Zero and all EHS initiatives.
  • Support the business unit assets by providing drilling and workover cost estimates for inclusion into annual budgets and AFEs.
  • Work with the Drilling Team on implementation of drilling design implementation and cost tracking.
  • Assist the Drilling engineers with the RFM and RFS process for drilling and workover operations.
  • Assure that schedules are defined, reviewed by asset teams requesting the work and approved by the Director.
  • Work with financial analyst on cost tracking. Manage relationships with service providers.   Review project bids and select appropriate vendors.
  • Supervise operations safely and in compliance with regulations and corporate policies/ procedures. Review and approve cost estimates for drilling programs as required.
  • Review and Approve detailed drilling prognosis for drilling programs that satisfy asset objectives and demonstrate compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Review post well analyses and benchmark results of actual vs. planned.
  • Work closely with the Reservoir, Production and Service Company personnel to ensure a SAFE, efficient operation.
  • Work with procurement to negotiate with suppliers of materials and services required for drilling operations.
  • Manage drilling project cost and progress daily.
  • Communicate with Reservoir and Production groups concerning operational, cost, risk and schedule issues.
  • Handle special project assignments as required.
  • Be proactive in anticipating drilling challenges and quick and effective when reacting to issues.
  • Demonstrate and consistently apply the highest level of leadership in Environmental, Health and Safety standards, practices and policies.

Be willing to travel to the field for project implementation and interaction with field personnel.

Qualifications:

Minimum requirements:

Education:

·        Bachelor degree in petroleum engineering/geosciences.

 

Experience / specific knowledge:

·        10 plus years in the oil and gas industry at least 5 of which are in the drilling and workover area.  5 years experience managing engineering / technical staff/ field supervisors.

 

Certifications, licenses, registrations:

·        Well Control training

·        Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

 

Competencies, skills, and abilities:

·        Familiarity with oil and gas operations.  High competency in supervising downhole operations.  High competency in supervising engineering/ technical staff/ field supervisors.

 

Physical demands:

·        Predominantly office environment. Travel to field operations ~1 to 2 times per quarter.

·        Ability to observe employees, operations, processes, equipment, and facilities

·        Ability to communication with others and give input/instruction orally. 

 

Working conditions:

·        Primarily office

·        Availability after hours, nights, weekends, holidays as needed

 

Supervisory responsibility:

·        Drilling Engineers, Technical Staff and /or field well site superintendents, supervisors and safety personnel.
