Location Cleveland OHCleveland-Cliffs is hiring an Environmental Manager based in the Cleveland office to oversee the environmental operations program for select steel sites. This role ensures compliance with environmental laws and regulations drives standardization on efficiency manages environmental risks and promotes best practices. This person will drive improvements in line with applicable local state and federal requirements as well as Cliffs policies and procedures for superior environmental performance.Summary of ResponsibilitiesRegular communicationcollaboration with assigned operations to ensure superior environmental compliance and to support business objectivesContribute to developing plans for continuous improvement in environmental performance for assigned operationsEnsure systemic implementation of rigorous root cause analyses correctivepreventive actions and sharing of best practices to improve performance and reduce risksAssess performance issues and risks and develop plans to address those risksBenchmark operational performance and share best practicesDrive a superior environmental compliance program through leading by example coaching mentoring and engaging people at all levels of the organization assist in the development of site environmental leadersCoordinate communication and response activities to environmental regulatory authorities and internal stakeholders when the company is required to provide such communicationsCoordinate environmental performance metric reporting for assigned operations including the development of leading and lagging indicators to track performanceCoordinate with assigned operations to ensure timelyaccurate collection and issuance of periodic reportsLead and assist operating sites in the consistent implementation of corporate policies and programsSupport the companys compliance audit program through environmental auditsrisk assessmentsBuild and enhance tools and systems needed for corporate initiativesCooperate with other corporate Environmental Affairs staff to support information requests reporting and program improvements and proper reporting of potential environmental risks and liabilitiesCoordinate with Regulatory & Permitting team on applicable emerging regulations to ensure the business is protected from emerging new regulatory risksCoordinate with sites and Regulatory & Permitting team to preparereview and submit applicable environmental permits plans and notifications and assist withreview agency submittalsOther duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsMinimum of 5 years of Environmental management experience in a manufacturing environmentBachelors degree in environmental engineering Chemical Engineering Biology Chemistry or equivalent work experienceDemonstrated a high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with site environmental and operational leadershipDemonstrated leadership skillsAbility to work independently prioritize work and handle multiple projectsExcellent written and verbal skillsCurrent working knowledge of various State and Federal Environmental Laws and regulations applicable to operationsFamiliarity with CAA CWA TSCA and RCRA regulationsFamiliarity with reading and interpreting laboratory analytical reports is required to support all regulatory requirements for all media air water and wasteProficient in MS Office productsPreferred Qualifications10-15 years implementation and management of Environmental Management Systems and Programs within the steel scrap metal processing and recycling or similar heavy industryExperience maintaining ISO Certified Management Systems ISO9000 ISO14001 etc. in heavy manufacturing environmentExtensive working knowledge of both Federal and State environmental laws and regulations related to steel scrap metal processing and recycling or similar heavy industryFamiliarity with process industry operationsThe salary range for this role is 105000 - 140000.
