Manager, Fleet and Equipment Maintenance JobID: 898 Position Type: Operations/ManagerDate Posted: 9/11/2026Location: Camden City School District(High-Needs School) Additional Information: Show/Hide MANAGER OF FLEET AND EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCEThe Superintendent invites qualified and interested candidates to apply for the position of Manager, Fleet and Equipment Maintenance.ROLE OVERVIEWThe Manager of Fleet and Equipment Maintenance oversees the administrative operation, safety compliance, and mechanical readiness of the school district's vehicular fleet and grounds equipment. Acting as a solo coordinator, this individual manages approximately 75 district assetsincluding school buses, passenger cars, and commercial work trucksas well as approximately 50 vehicle snowplows and mechanized snow blowers. Included in this equipment, is any equipment to maintain the High School athletic fields. This position is responsible for diagnosing fleet needs, coordinating outsourced repairs with local shops, ordering parts, maintaining equipment, and overseeing Facilities tool and in-house parts inventory control.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSBachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field or 5 years of experience in school facilities maintenance or CEFM certificate; vocational training or certification in automotive service management preferred.Strong working knowledge of commercial vehicle mechanics, school bus safety laws, preventive maintenance cycles, fleet tracking software, inventory databases, and electronic procurement tools.Excellent vendor management and organizational skills.Required criminal history background check, physical, and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.PREFERRED REQUIREMENTSValid New Jersey Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements, or willingness to obtain within an agreed-upon timeframe.ASE certifications in Service Consultant or School Bus/Truck categories preferred.ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIESFLEET MAINTENANCE COORDINATION & VENDOR OVERSIGHTOutsourced Fleet Maintenance: Serve as the sole coordinator for all vehicle servicing. Diagnose mechanical issues, obtain repair estimates, and schedule routine or emergency service with pre-approved local repair shops and dealerships.Vendor Oversight & Quality Control: Evaluate external vendor performance, verify invoice accuracy, and inspect completed work to ensure repairs meet safety specifications before returning vehicles to service.Emergency & Logistics Support: Coordinate emergency roadside assistance for disabled vehicles using local towing and repair vendors.INSPECTION COMPLIANCE & SAFETY READINESSNJMVC Compliance: Coordinate and oversee biannual New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission school bus inspections. Maintain vehicle registration records and insurance requirements.Audit-Ready Records: Maintain vehicle files, service histories, inspection logs, and maintenance documentation in compliance with NJMVC and New Jersey Department of Education requirements.Operational Safety: Ensure fleet and equipment are maintained in a safe, reliable, and service-ready condition.EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE, PROCUREMENT & INVENTORY CONTROLEquipment Maintenance & Setup: Manage the upkeep, winterization, and storage of motorized facilities and grounds equipment, including tractors, mowers, commercial snowplows, salters, and mechanized snow blowers.Procurement & Parts Ordering: Source and order routine automotive parts, fluids, specialized shop tools, and safety gear while following New Jersey Public School Contracts Law and district budget allocations.Inventory & Tool Control: Maintain accountability and organization of the district utility garage, parts cage, diagnostic equipment, and communal tools. Track inventory levels to prevent waste and loss.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The following physical demands are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Candidates must already reside in New Jersey or establish residency within the required timeframe after hire. Current employees who were hired on or before September 1, 2011, are exempt from this requirement and may continue to reside outside the state.
