Tesla is hiring a Manager of General Assembly (GA) Quality Engineering to lead the quality function for vehicle final assembly at Gigafactory Texas, supporting Cybertruck, Cybercab, and Model Y. This leader owns the GA quality outcomes across launch and steady-state production from Warranty to infactory metrics. These include BSR and water-tight performance, paint, fit-and-finish, soft trim, electrical, and final vehicle audit. You will lead a team of Quality Engineers, drive data-driven problem solving, and partner cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Design, Supplier Quality, and Service to deliver vehicles that meet Tesla's standard out of the gate.
Lead a team of GA Quality Engineers covering trim, chassis, final line, marriage, and end-of-line vehicle test across multiple programs
Own GA-level quality KPIs: Direct Run %, FQT yield, audit defects per vehicle, BSR rate, water test pass rate, MRB cost, and warranty signal
Drive containment, root cause, and permanent corrective action for high-impact GA defects (BSR, water leaks, gap/flush, soft-set, electrical, soft trim)
Adjudicate MRB tickets, approve TSORTs, and resolve WOEL-to-GA escalations with speed and discipline
Partner with NPI and Program teams through RC builds, pilot, and ramp - represent quality in cross-functional launch calls and own the GA quality readiness gate
Operationalize Tesla's digital quality stack (QPX, quality cards, MOS, FX-Quality) to detect issues earlier and reduce manual triage load
Build hiring plans, develop engineers, and run a performance bar that reflects Tesla's expectations
Interface daily with GA Production leadership, Design Engineering, and Supplier Quality to close issues at the lowest possible cost
Escalate systemic design or supplier issues with data, and drive them to closure across the value chain
8+ years of automotive or high-volume manufacturing quality engineering experience, with at least 3 years leading engineering teams
Deep hands-on expertise in vehicle General Assembly: BIW-to-GA interface, trim/chassis/final, marriage, vehicle test, and audit
Demonstrated ownership of a GA quality function through a vehicle launch (NPI, RC builds, pilot, ramp to volume)
Strong command of structured problem solving (8D, DMAIC, Shainin, FTA) and statistical methods
Proven ability to lead data-driven quality programs - comfortable in SQL/dashboards/BI tools and pushing teams to act on signal, not opinion
Experience hiring, developing, and managing technical engineering teams in a fast-paced production environment
Bias for action, comfort with ambiguity, and willingness to be on the floor every day
Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
