Exciting opportunity available supporting the Associate Director, Facilities Support Services
About the Role:
In this role you will provide leadership and expertise for the Grounds unit of Facilities, in maintaining 235 acres of all types of terrain across campus. Has direct responsibility for overseeing all aspects of the daily work of internal Brandeis grounds and mechanic/garage personnel, as well as external contractors, in their performance of work on campus grounds and motor equipment. Develops and implements programs and schedules for all aspects of grounds maintenance, including landscape/hardscape maintenance and construction, irrigation, disease identification and treatment in turf/plants/trees, pest control through Integrated Pest Management, equipment maintenance, snow removal and inclement weather clean-up. Oversees Brandeis facilities' fleet of vehicles and other motorized and non-motorized equipment. Responsible for budget preparation, as well as personnel management which includes planning, organizing, and training. Collaborates with other Facilities supervisors, managers and administrative staff in support of the department’s objective to provide a top-quality work product with excellent customer service to the community.
Key Responsibilities:
Acting in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and with departmental and university policy, leads and supervises a team in conducting all aspects of landscape maintenance, including athletic field maintenance and snow removal operations. Trains and supervises the performance of assigned staff, interviews and selects employees, conducts reassignments, terminations and disciplinary actions; assures substitute coverage as necessary; reviews the performance of all staff members.
Performs all related administrative and financial duties daily, utilizing a variety of computer systems and applications for work management, payroll review and approval, Purchase Order creation, budget tracking, email communications, etc. Assists in preparing bid specifications and other information for service contracts and project work. Assist in the planning and monitoring of capital projects that involve the landscape and hardscape on campus. Responsible for identifying emergency and future planned budgetary needs.
Manages the maintenance and repair of Facilities Services vehicles and motor equipment that includes loaders, tractors and all typical equipment associated with a facilities operation. Administers the site disposal of all campus trash, the collection and disposal of all recyclable materials, and the storage and disposal of Universal Waste. Ensures compliance with applicable rules, laws and policies related to hazardous materials handling and communications, and to Integrated Pest Management.
Manages the fleet program for all Brandeis Facilities vehicles. This includes providing temporary use of vehicles for Facilities Services personnel, filing all registration renewals, and filing insurance claims for accidents involving University vehicles.
Working in conjunction with Public Safety and other Facilities staff, responds to all after hours emergencies (snow removal, downed trees/limbs/light poles, etc.), either in person or through directing subordinate staff or external contractors. Maintains compliance with all related state and federal codes and safety regulations and ensures adherence with relevant department and university policies and procedures.
