Job Description and Duties

The vision for this role is to build and lead a high-performing, future-focused brand and marketing organization that serves as a strategic growth engine for the OC Fair & Event Center. This leader will unify marketing, communications, creative services, social media and sponsorship support into a more collaborative, data-informed, and innovative team.

This position will work closely with the Chief Business Development Officer and executive leadership team to develop and implement marketing strategies that drive attendance, revenue, visibility, community connection, and long-term brand relevance. These initiatives will support the annual OC Fair, Pacific Amphitheatre, year-round events, facility rentals, sponsorship initiatives, community programs, agricultural programming, and future business opportunities. The director will bring the perspective of a senior brand executive with the hands-on leadership needed to modernize systems, strengthen internal partnerships, develop talent, and elevate the organization's public presence.

20% recruitment and retention differential $1,743 to $1,979.80.

As part of the State's efforts to address ongoing budget shortfalls, through June 30, 2027, the Personal Leave Program 2025 [PLP] will be in effect. This consists of a 3% pay reduction in base monthly salary in exchange for an accrual of 5 hours of PLP leave per month.

Department Information

The 32nd District Agricultural Association, also known as the OC Fair & Event Center (OCFEC) is a state agency under jurisdiction of the California Department of Food & Agriculture. The governing authority is a nine-member Board of Directors.

OCFEC is located in Costa Mesa, California on 130 acres that include educational assets like Centennial Farm, Heroes Hall and The Ranch Community Center. With an annual budget of $50 + million, the organization produces a STEAM education event, Imaginology and the highly-anticipated OC Fair each year. The OC Fair is one of the top ten Fairs in the nation and top three in California. In addition to the annual OC Fair, promoters host over 150 year-round events on our beautiful grounds.

The organization employs approximately 120 full-time civil service employees and 300 part-time, temporary employees on a year-round basis. The organization also employs approximately 1,400 part-time staff members at fair time.
