About the Opportunity
The Manager, Internal Audit plays a key role in providing independent assurance over financial reporting, internal controls, governance, and risk management. The role has primary responsibility for managing and executing the Company's Sarbanes‑Oxley (SOX) Section 404 compliance program, operational audits, and providing controls related guidance for projects. This position regularly interacts with senior management and external auditors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required. Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of total experience (1+ in a supervisory role) in internal audit, external audit, or SOX compliance, with public company experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in SOX 404 Internal Controls over Financial Reporting testing within a public company environment.
- IT General Controls testing experience preferred.
- Experience within a public REIT or real estate organization preferred.
- Strong knowledge of internal auditing standards, internal control frameworks, and regulatory compliance expectations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with senior leadership.
Summary of Responsibilities
SOX 404 & Internal Controls over Financial Reporting
- Manage the SOX 404 compliance program, including participating in the annual scoping, risk assessment, walkthroughs, testing, and evaluation of internal controls over financial reporting.
- Identify, assess, and document control deficiencies, including severity evaluation.
- Monitor and validate remediation plans and retest controls to ensure timely resolution.
Internal Audit & Risk-Based Reviews
- Plan and execute risk-based operational audits across corporate functions.
- Conduct enterprise risk assessment activities and support the annual internal audit plan.
- Assess compliance with company policies, REIT regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
External Audit Interaction
- Act as a liaison with external auditors, including coordination of SOX reliance, audit timing, and PBC requests.
Public Company & SEC Reporting Support
- Support management's certification of internal controls and disclosure controls.
- Evaluate disclosure controls and procedures to ensure completeness and accuracy of public filings.
- Coordinate closely with Accounting teams on control implications of new accounting standards and transactions.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Supervise and mentor internal audit staff and/or co‑sourced service providers.
- Review workpapers and audit reports to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with professional standards.
- Drive continuous improvement in audit methodology, documentation, and use of data analytics.

At Kilroy, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within the role. The base pay range for this role is between $135,000 and $157,500 and your base pay will depend on your skills, experience and training, knowledge, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. This role is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus as well.
