The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are currently seeking a Manager, Labor Relations Business Partnership to join our Platform Construction team in Seattle, WA. Manages labor relations activities for McKinstry's represented workforce, serving as a strategic HR advisor to business unit leaders while managing and developing the Labor Relations Business Partner team. Partners with the Director, Labor Relations Partnership to drive consistent, compliant, and effective administration of collective bargaining agreements and union relations programs.

  • Manage, coach, and develop the Labor Relations Business Partner team, providing day-to-day guidance, performance oversight, and professional development support.

  • Serve as a strategic LR business partner to key business unit leaders associated with the represented workforce, building strong, trust-based relationships with both management and union leadership.

  • Oversee the administration, execution, and compliance of collective bargaining agreements in coordination with the Director, Labor Relations Partnership.

  • Lead and manage complex labor and employee relations investigations pertaining to working conditions, disciplinary actions, grievances, and jurisdictional questions; provide recommendations to company leadership for resolution. Ensures consistent protocol is followed in all new geographic areas.

  • Develop strategy on labor issues in partnership with Director, Labor Relations and trade superintendents; stay abreast of developments in applicable federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations to ensure ongoing compliance

  • Supervises and assists with integration of new union on-boarding processes to ensure compliance with payroll conversion.

  • Act as LRBP for assigned region.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • Working knowledge of multiple HR disciplines including labor/union relations, collective bargaining, performance management, and federal and state employment laws required.

  • Experience managing and developing HR or Labor Relations professionals required.

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations required.

  • Excellent consulting, interpersonal, conflict management, and negotiation skills required.

  • Experience in the construction industry preferred.

  • PHR/SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.

  • 10 years of progressive HR and/or labor relations experience required, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory or management capacity.

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business Administration, or equivalent experience required.

  • Knowledge and experience with HRIS systems required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required; SharePoint preferred.

The pay range for this position is $99,270 - $169,900 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
