Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Negotiates with union representatives to resolve/settle claims and disciplines appealed to the Manager of Labor Relations level.
  • Manages staff in the implementation of Labor Relations policies and procedures, daily contract administration and other activities as assigned.
  • Manages the preparation of written materials for arbitration and represents Company at arbitration proceedings as the advocate.
  • Advises mid and supervisory level management, unions, and employees on proper interpretation and administration of contracts.
  • Develops recommendations for modifying contract language for operating/non-operating craft negotiations and participates in same.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Industrial/Labor Relations, or related area and five (5) years of experience in labor relations in the public or private sectors in a multi-union labor environment to include supervisory experience.
  • A Master's Degree in Industrial Relations, Business Administration or related area, or Law Degree may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of federal and labor legislation effecting railroad operations.
  • Knowledge of railroad operations desired..
  • Must have superior verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to interpret data and properly draft related labor documents.
  • Strong problem solving, analysis, project management, organizational and leadership skills required.
