Maintains responsibility for overall operation of the clinical laboratory in consultation with and under the direction of Medical Directors (Pathologists) and the Regional Clinical Laboratory Directors. Develops, monitors and provides leadership for the financial, contracting, regulatory, accreditation and client services policies procedures for the clinical/anatomic laboratories. Selects appropriate instrumentation or test methodologies, develops and maintains appropriate Quality Assurance (QA) program, monitors testing and QA processes, including recording and reporting of results. Education and Work Experience: Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, biological sciences, chemical sciences or allied health technologies or equivalent: Current certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Credentialing Agency for Labs (NCA): Facility Specific License/Certifications: ~ Manages the day-to-day operations of a unit/department. Facilitates effective organization of staff, equipment, supplies and time. Supervises unit/department through delegation of tasks. Coordinates the preparation of reports and analyses, setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations, or conclusions. Participates in the development of new medical laboratory procedures and techniques. Develops and implements quality control programs to ensure reliability of testing procedures, proper function of laboratory equipment and compliance with federal regulations; Provides advanced problem solving, troubleshooting, interpretation/consultation, verification of specimen quality and test results. Recommends and develops quality cost containment programs for laboratory services (e.g., Monitors Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Safety and Inspection Control practices to assure compliance with internal/external regulations. Reviews patient and quality control results for shifts and trends, monitoring quality of departmental functions. Manages, coordinates and evaluates all elements of laboratory services in assigned specialties of the Laboratory (Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Blood Bank, Phlebotomy, Specimen Processing, Immunology, Pathology etc.) in support of quality laboratory service and organizational mission of patient care. Interprets accrediting agencies standards or guidelines for ancillary testing program and translates requirement into policies and procedures; completes checklist and other information sheets required and coordinates on-site inspection of sections. Oversees financial aspects of the laboratory, including coordinating and preparing the capital and operational budgets. prepares and reports internal and peer comparison financial and performance indicators, maintaining the charge description master. Collaborates closely with the Laboratory Directors and Supervisors on current/future financial challenges. Works closely with Finance to ensure proper billing, accounting, auditing, CPT coding, Medicare/Medicaid billing procedures and protocols are followed.
