Your team will work closely with Design Engineering and cross‑functional partners across Electronics Supply Chain, including Commercial, Operations, and Test Engineering, to ensure new designs are optimized for manufacturing while driving improvements in yield, cycle time, and cost for existing hardware. You'll develop and mentor your engineers, set technical direction, and remove barriers so your team can bring satellite hardware to life at scale.Come solve the difficult and rewarding engineering challenges in developing a highly reliable, power‑efficient, performant, low‑cost satellite bus and payload. As a Sr. PCBA Manufacturing Engineer, you will work across design engineering, supply‑chain, quality, and our manufacturing partners to drive Amazon Leo electrical sub‑system and PCBA manufacturing and delivery.You must have the ability to dive deep on the details to identify, understand, and solve difficult technical problems and also utilize a system‑level approach to prioritize issues for the whole program. You use data to drive manufacturability, reliability, and quality objectives in design and development teams.*Up to 20% Travel will be required for this roleKey job responsibilitiesLead your team's engagement with Design Engineering on PCB/PCBA DFM feedback and early escalation of manufacturing challenges.Own the PCBA Manufacturing Qualification process at the CM, including readiness requirements, team assignments, and milestone reviews.Drive adoption of new manufacturing technology to improve PCBA quality, reliability, throughput, and cost.Coordinate cross‑functional efforts across Operations, Commercial, Test Engineering, and Reliability Engineering to resolve pre‑production issues and improve yields for production ramp.Oversee failure and defect investigations, holding the team accountable for root‑cause identification and corrective action.Prioritize opportunities for risk reduction and process simplification across your PCBA portfolio.Ensure delivery of manufacturing process capabilities including equipment qualification, quality controls, materials characterization, and standardized rework practices.Monitor program health and team performance through production ramp; provide status reporting and escalated risks to leadership.Direct deployment and qualification of polymerics (staking, underfill, conformal coat) equipment for high volume production.Basic Qualifications5+ years of experience managing engineering teams working across interdisciplinary groups to execute product design from concept to production5+ years of experience in PCBA/PCB production/processes and manufacturing engineeringExperience driving Design for Excellence (DFM, DFA, DFT) upstream with Design EngineeringWorking knowledge of board assembly processes and equipment: stencil, paste print, SPI, pick & place, SMT reflow, AOI, 5DX, selective solder, flying probe, and washExperience managing relationships with contract manufacturers, suppliers, and 3rd party test and failure analysis partnersProven ability to build, develop, and lead engineering teams in root‑causing technical product manufacturability and process problemsStrong interpersonal and collaborative skills with a track record of fostering team culture around innovation, manufacturability, quality, and reliabilityPreferred Qualifications7+ years of engineering team management experience10+ years of experience in PCBA/PCB supply chain, manufacturing, or engineeringExperience with Design and Process Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (DFMEA/PFMEA)Experience with IPC‑A‑610H Class 3, IPC J‑STD‑001H complianceExperience in polymeric application, including conformal coating, staking, and underfillExperience in solder alloys including leaded, lead free, and next‑gen low temp alloysExperience with flying probe test systems and DFTExperience directing hands‑on experimental design and execution (statistical analysis and DOE)Amazon is an equal‑opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.
