Position Description:

Responsible for the oversight, leadership and results for Salvage, Recycling and E-waste operations for Goodwill of the San Francisco Bay. Directs all aspects of daily operations, leading the team and driving the business for both short- and long-term success. This role focuses on innovation in recycling processes, identifying and developing opportunities to divert additional commodities from waste streams while maximizing their value.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Executes department operations plan to achieve required targeted growth in daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly goals for profit, revenue and environmental impact.

  • Monitors and records product levels daily to achieve bottom line sales budget against targets while optimizing material recovery and minimizing waste.

  • Ensures payroll and operating costs are managed to budget with a focus on resource efficiency.

  • Creates and maintains ongoing relationships with salvage buyers to foster a market for repurposed and recyclable materials.

  • Partners with community businesses and organizations to promote the GSFB mission and champion sustainability efforts.

  • Serves as a GCNA ambassador to the community advocating for the environmental and social benefits of recycling and reuse.

  • Makes decisions on matters relating to the day-to-day operations within his/her defined work area.

  • Coordinates with the Director, Aftermarket to analyze and develop pricing strategies for salvage product in accordance with current market value.

  • Partners with local recyclers to be informed on their market pricing, hazards that have been delivered in our materials and any hours of operation changes to the recycling companies.

  • Ensures the quality and quantity of all salvage commodities are meeting the salvage guidelines.

  • Oversees proper handling, sorting, and environmentally responsible disposal of e-waste in accordance with all local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Ensures that team members are operating per company standards and procedures, relating to Security, Health and Safety; influences any changes necessary to meet statutory requirements, ensuring minimum risk to Team Members and the business.

  • Partners with support areas (Asset Protection, Human Resources, Safety, Finance, etc.) to further business goals and ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and regulations.

  • Maintains regular and consistent in-person attendance.

  • Responsible for performance management (coaching, discipline, performance improvement plans, and annual reviews), staffing, compensation, and development of Team Members.

  • Plays critical role in driving company culture change efforts and change management processes.

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills):

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Two years' work experience in Retail Management, preferably thrift

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Ability to speak and read English proficiently

  • Ability to pass a background check where applicable for position
