Overview:
The Manager – Materials Management is a strategic supply chain leader responsible for end-to-end execution of material delivery, sourcing operations, and supplier performance across capital, maintenance, and operational initiatives. This role leads to the development and execution of scalable material management strategies that ensure reliable, cost-effective supply to the business while enabling field execution and system reliability.
In addition to operational execution, this role is accountable for embedding advanced analytics, data governance, and performance measurement frameworks into materials management. The Manager will define and scale data-driven decision-making capabilities, self-service reporting, and KPI frameworks to improve service levels, optimize cost, and enhance supply chain performance. This role operates with broad enterprise impact, influencing sourcing strategies, supplier engagement models, inventory optimization, and digital enablement initiatives across Supply Chain. The leader will partner cross-functionally to align execution with business priorities while driving continuous improvement and transformation of materials management capabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop a high-performing organization of buyers and materials professionals, with accountability for execution, capability development, and performance outcomes across materials management
- Establish governance, operating rhythms, and performance expectations to drive accountability and execution discipline
- Build organizational capability across operational excellence and advanced analytics
- Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making, continuous improvement, and accountability
- Own end-to-end materials management performance, including service levels, supply continuity, and working capital optimization
- Lead procurement and fulfillment strategies aligned with business priorities, project schedules, and field execution needs
- Direct inventory strategy, including positioning, replenishment models, and demand responsiveness to balance cost, availability, and risk
- Oversee procurement and fulfillment of materials supporting capital projects, maintenance, and operations
- Provide governance and direction for procurement execution, contract management, and supplier engagement
- Establish and manage supplier performance frameworks tied to service, cost, quality, and reliability
- Drive strategic sourcing alignment with enterprise objectives, including supplier diversity and sustainability
- Collaborate on sourcing strategies, supplier segmentation, and risk mitigation approaches to ensure supply continuity
- Strengthening supplier partnerships to support long-term operational and strategic outcomes
- Define and lead a materials management analytics strategy aligned to enterprise business outcomes
- Implement standardized KPIs, dashboards, and scorecards across supplier performance, inventory health, and service levels
- Drive adoption of self-service BI and data visualization tools to enable scalable decision-making
- Translate data into actionable insights to inform strategy, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement.
- Drive end-to-end process standardization across materials management, sourcing, and inventory operations
- Improve data integrity, reporting accuracy, and process compliance
- Identify and execute continuous improvement initiatives using data-driven insights
- Benchmark industry practices and implement best-in-class capabilities.
- Partner with supply chain planning, engineering, operations, and business leaders to align materials strategies with organizational priorities
- Support enterprise initiatives with data-driven insights and operational expertise
- Influence supply chain strategy, policy development, and long-term capability roadmaps
- Communicate performance, risks, and insights effectively to senior leadership.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain strong controls over procurement, supplier management, and inventory processes
- May be assigned an emergency and storm restoration role, requiring after-hours work during critical events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business Administration, IT, or related technical field.
Required Experience:
5+ years of sourcing experience, including experience with negotiation of commercial Terms and Conditions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Two or more years of electric or gas utility operations sourcing experience.
- Lean and/or Six Sigma certification or equivalent program.
- Business, Engineering or Supply Chain Management degree.
- Experience in utility operations.
- Master of Business Administration degree.
