Responsibilities:

How you’ll make an impact in this role

  • Strategic Planning & Budgeting (55%): Develops and executes operational policies, manages capital and operating budgets, and authorizes purchase requests for major equipment and service agreements.
  • Daily MEP Operations: Manages day-to-day plant operations, coordinates scheduling, and evaluates work order histories to transition maintenance in-house for improved efficiency and cost reduction.
  • Project & Vendor Management: Acts as the primary liaison for remodeling and construction projects; manages the vendor bidding process, contract compliance, and system shutdowns/interruptions.
  • Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Establishes a safe work environment through audits and training, while ensuring strict compliance with local, State, Federal, and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards.
  • Technical Subject Matter Expertise (15%): Serves as the technical expert on MEP systems (including boilers, chillers, pumps, and water systems) for internal administration, contractors, architects, and engineers.
  • Continuous Improvement (10%): Acts as an organizational change agent to identify, implement, and share best practices that drive process and efficiency improvements.
  • Team Leadership & Development (20%): Leads and guides staff, manages performance evaluations, oversees capacity planning, and provides technical training or apprenticeship opportunities.
  • Technical & Analytical Skills: Demonstrates proficiency in MS Office, mobile tech, and web-based work order systems, alongside a strong ability to interpret building blueprints and system layouts.
  • Problem Solving & Critical Thinking: Gathers and analyzes information skillfully to draw objective conclusions, make decisive judgments, and implement realistic action plans.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Maintains excellent interpersonal skills to communicate project statuses and service issues across all levels of the organization and with external partners.
  • Adaptability & Accountability: Thrives with minimal supervision in stressful environments, adapts quickly to changing project scopes, and takes ownership of personal and team results.
Qualifications:

What minimum requirements you’ll need

 

Education:

 

  • Associates degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related field required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related field preferred

 

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Journeyman level skilled trades certification in MEP disciplines required
  • Master level skilled trades certification preferred
  • Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager (CHFM) preferred
  • Contractor level licensure in at least one of the MEP disciplines preferred

Work Experience:

  • Ten years’ experience in mechanical, electrical, or plumbing maintenance and operations oversight of a physical plant and/or building maintenance for a large facility required
  • Five years’ supervisory experience, preferably with managing off-site operations and direct reports required
  • Five years’ experience in healthcare system, preferably a large, multi-campus healthcare system required
  • Knowledge and experience with Joint Commission, NFPA, state and federal regulations for healthcare facilities required
  • Fifteen years’ experience in mechanical, electrical, or plumbing maintenance and operations oversight of a physical plant and/or building maintenance for a large facility preferred
