Job Description

Manager Of Electrical Systems

A company operating in the industrial and manufacturing industry, located in Greater Hartford. This organization is entering an exciting period of technical investment and innovation. Rather than focusing solely on existing products, the business is creating a dedicated advanced engineering team to explore what could be possible next. The group will investigate new electrical technologies, test early concepts, develop prototypes, and solve complex problems before formal product requirements are established. The successful leader will inherit approximately six engineers and have considerable influence over the team's direction, culture, and future growth.

Lead and develop an advanced engineering team of approximately six engineers, with the opportunity to expand the group over time. Establish the technical direction, priorities, operating structure, and development roadmap for a newly formed advanced technology team. Lead the discovery and evaluation of emerging electrical technologies, system concepts, and engineering approaches. Identify potential solutions to complex technical challenges before formal product requirements have been established. Guide feasibility studies, proof of concept development, experimentation, modeling, and prototype testing. Provide hands on technical leadership across electrical systems, hardware development, electronics, controls, sensing, and related technologies. Evaluate the technical viability, risks, limitations, and potential applications of new concepts. Create an environment that encourages experimentation, technical curiosity, and informed risk taking. Help engineers navigate ambiguous problems where the solution and development path are not yet fully understood. Translate early stage discoveries into clear technical recommendations and future development opportunities. Present findings, technical risks, and recommendations to senior engineering and business leadership. Collaborate with engineering, product development, operations, and other technical teams to determine how successful concepts can progress into formal development. Recruit, mentor, and develop engineers as the advanced technology organization continues to grow.

A successful Manager of Electrical Systems should have: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university. A strong professional background in electrical engineering, electrical systems, electronics, hardware development, or a closely aligned technical discipline. Previous experience leading or managing electrical engineers, hardware engineers, or multidisciplinary technical teams. Experience working in advanced development, applied research, technology discovery, new product development, or early stage engineering environments. Strong understanding of the electrical engineering development process, including design, analysis, prototyping, testing, and technical validation. Demonstrated ability to lead technical work where requirements, solutions, and development pathways are still evolving. Ability to assess complex technologies and communicate clear technical recommendations. Strong leadership, mentoring, and team building capabilities. Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical information to both engineering and executive audiences.

The opportunity to lead the creation of a new advanced electrical engineering team from its earliest stages. Immediate leadership responsibility for a team of approximately six engineers, with the potential to grow the group over time. Significant ownership over the team's technical direction, structure, priorities, and long term strategy. A true discovery focused position centered on exploring new technologies, testing ideas, and solving undefined engineering challenges. The freedom to investigate emerging electrical systems and develop concepts without being limited to existing products or production programs. Direct visibility with senior engineering and business leadership. The ability to influence future technologies, products, and engineering capabilities across the organization. A highly collaborative environment that values technical curiosity, experimentation, and informed risk taking. The opportunity to remain technically involved while building and developing a talented engineering team. Long term career growth as the advanced engineering function expands. A competitive compensation and benefits package aligned with the experience and technical leadership required for the position.
