A full-time leadership opportunity is available for a Manager of Emergency Department Nursing at a 285+ bed Level II Trauma Center in Independence, Missouri. This respected acute care hospital features an accredited Chest Pain Center, Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, accredited Cancer Program and Breast Center, and a dedicated Stroke Center, providing advanced care to the greater Kansas City community.
This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Emergency Department while ensuring exceptional patient care, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. The manager provides direction for clinical practice, financial performance, staffing, and departmental operations while serving as a key resource for both nursing staff and physicians. Success in this position requires a collaborative leader who can foster a positive work environment, support professional development, and drive continuous improvement across the department.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the clinical, operational, financial, environmental, and human resource functions of the Emergency Department.
Lead daily department operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.
Develop, implement, review, and update departmental policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
Partner with physicians and hospital leadership to promote effective communication and coordinated patient care.
Monitor departmental performance and maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
Manage department budgets and ensure responsible use of resources.
Lead recruitment, hiring, onboarding, education, performance evaluations, coaching, and employee development.
Address employee relations matters, including performance improvement and disciplinary processes when appropriate.
Serve as a clinical resource, mentor, and professional role model for the Emergency Department team.
Support quality improvement initiatives and encourage a culture of accountability, collaboration, and patient-centered care.
Qualifications:
Associate Degree in Nursing or Registered Nurse Diploma required.
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
Recent acute care Emergency Department leadership experience preferred.
Candidates with at least two years of recent Emergency Department Charge Nurse experience and strong ED clinical expertise are encouraged to apply.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 90 days of hire.
Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification required within one year of hire.
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification required within one year of hire.
Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.

Monday through Thursday
2:00 PM – 12:00 AM
Rotating on-call responsibility every three weeks
