Description

This role is onsite Monday - Friday from 8am to 5pm at our Corporate Resources Center located at 2061 Collier Parkway in Land O'Lakes, Florida.

Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, the Manager of Employee Health oversees comprehensive employee health, occupational health, workers’ compensation, leave of absence, and wellness programs for the hospice organization. This role ensures a safe, healthy, and compliant workplace for staff who provide compassionate end-of-life care, while promoting employee well-being, reducing occupational risks, managing claims and leaves effectively, and fostering a culture of prevention and support in a healthcare environment subject to Florida and federal regulations (including OSHA, FMLA, ADA, and Florida workers’ compensation laws under Chapter 440).

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current license in the State of Florida as a Registered Nurse
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN preferred), Public Health, Occupational Health, Healthcare Administration, Human Resources, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Employee Health / Occupational Health programs, Benefits Administration, Workers Compensation, Leave of Absence Management, Accommodation Requests, or Wellness Program oversight required, including 2 years at a manager level.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, CDC guidelines, and Florida workers’ compensation laws (Chapter 440).
  • Experience with case management, claims administration, medical surveillance programs, and data tracking/reporting.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills; ability to handle sensitive/confidential information with discretion and compassion.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, HRIS/leave management systems, and electronic health/occupational health record systems.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver’s license reliable transportation to perform tasks and responsibilities in a timely and appropriate fashion. 

Key Responsibilities

Employee Health & Occupational Health

  • Oversee pre-employment/post-offer physical exams, health screenings, drug testing, immunization tracking and administration (e.g., influenza, hepatitis B, MMR, varicella, Tdap, TB screening/testing), respiratory fit-testing, and communicable disease monitoring/exposure management.
  • Manage occupational exposures, illness/injury evaluations, ergonomic assessments, indoor air quality concerns, workplace violence prevention elements, and fit-for-duty or return-to-work assessments.
  • Maintain confidential employee health records in compliance with HIPAA and applicable regulations; ensure accurate documentation and reporting.
  • Develop, implement, and update policies/procedures for employee health services aligned with CDC, OSHA, Joint Commission (or equivalent), and Florida Department of Health guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Infection Prevention, Safety, and clinical leadership on infection control and exposure protocols relevant to hospice/home health settings.

Workers’ Compensation

  • Manage the workers’ compensation program, including incident reporting, claim submission, investigation coordination, case management, and liaison with third-party administrators (TPAs), carriers, medical providers, and legal counsel as needed.
  • Oversee transitional/light-duty/modified-duty programs, return-to-work processes, and strategies to prevent workplace injuries and reduce claim costs/frequency.
  • Track and analyze claims data, ensure timely compliance with Florida workers’ compensation requirements, and prepare reports for leadership and auditors.
  • Coordinate with supervisors on accommodations and restricted duty assignments.

Leave of Absence Management

  • Administer leave of absence programs, including FMLA, ADA/ADAAA accommodations, medical leaves, disability leaves, and coordination with workers’ compensation absences (which may run concurrently).
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employees, managers, and providers regarding leave eligibility, certification, tracking, recertification, return-to-work, and job restoration.
  • Ensure compliance with federal (FMLA, ADA) and Florida-specific leave and disability provisions; integrate leave processes with payroll, benefits, and HR systems.
  • Manage ADA interactive process and reasonable accommodation requests related to health conditions.

Wellness Program Management

  • Design, implement, promote, and evaluate a comprehensive employee wellness program focused on physical, mental, emotional, and preventive health (e.g., education initiatives, fitness/wellness partnerships, stress management, healthy lifestyle support, and incentive programs).
  • Track participation, outcomes, and metrics; use data to refine offerings and demonstrate ROI (reduced absenteeism, improved engagement, lower healthcare costs).
  • Partner with benefits providers, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and external vendors; facilitate educational sessions and campaigns (e.g., flu clinics, wellness challenges).

Leadership, Compliance & Operations

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and performance management for any direct reports in employee health or related functions.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, participate in audits, process improvement, and quality initiatives.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, Safety/Risk Management, Clinical Leadership, Finance, and external partners.
  • Prepare reports, analyze trends (injuries, leaves, wellness metrics, costs), and recommend strategies to leadership.
  • Maintain knowledge of evolving regulations and best practices in occupational health, workers’ compensation, leave management, and wellness, particularly in hospice/home healthcare environments.
  • Support emergency preparedness and response related to employee health as needed.
