Manager of Finance & Operations

Reports To: Executive Director

Supervises: Office and Operational Support Staff, Vendors and Assigned Contractors

Purpose

The Manager of Finance & Operations provides strategic leadership and oversight of the school''s financial management, human resources, facilities, operations, state reporting and business functions. This position ensures fiscal responsibility, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and a safe, well-managed learning environment while supporting the mission and long-term sustainability of the school.

Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Monitor and share oversight for accounts payable, purchasing, procurement, contracts, budgeting, financial reporting, audits, bond compliance and cash management.
  • Monitor accounts receivable, credit card reconciliation, financial policies, budget revisions and vendor relationships.
  • Serve as one of the points of contact with auditors, accountants, financial institutions, and the Finance Committee.

Human Resources

  • Collaborate on the coordination of recruitment, onboarding, compensation, contracts, benefits administration, payroll oversight, employee records, leave programs (FMLA, ADA, Workers'' Compensation), retirement programs, immigration sponsorship and compliance with employment laws.
  • Support salary analysis, professional development planning and employee relations initiatives.

Operations & Facilities

  • Oversee the facilities manager, capital projects, safety programs, insurance, technology and facilities vendors, classroom and furniture planning, building access management and operational logistics.
  • Ensure compliance with school safety procedures and emergency preparedness plans.

State Compliance & Enrollment

  • Collaborate on coordination of required state reporting related to finance, human resources, operations, technology and student data.
  • Ensure timely submission of required financial, enrollment and compliance reports.
  • Support enrollment planning, open house, marketing initiatives, website oversight and communications that promote student recruitment and community engagement.

Leadership

  • Develop and implement efficient operational systems and internal controls.
  • Collaborate with school leadership and the Board to support strategic planning and organizational effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Minimum Training and Experience

  • Bachelor''s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (3) years of progressively responsible experience in finance, operations, business management or school administration.
  • Experience managing budgets, contracts, compliance, and operational functions.

Desired Qualifications and/or Experience

  • Experience in charter school or nonprofit financial and operational management.
  • Knowledge of North Carolina charter school finance, HR regulations and state reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, project management and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with financial management, payroll, HRIS and other software systems.
