This position is responsible to direct the total operation of the Nutrition Services Department. This includes patient meal service, cafeteria operations, vending and catering. This position is responsible for managing the inpatient and outpatient nutrition programs at Bronson Lakeview Hospital. Responsible for meeting all JCAHO and State and Federal regulations. This position also serves as the hospital liaison to the BLH Auxiliary. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
Bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutrition and 5-7 years clinical nutrition and food service management experience required
Registered Dietitian (must be in good standing and valid in the state of Michigan) and completion of accredited internship/continuing education requirements of 75 credits every 5 years required
ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification required as of June 2019.
• Should possess good computer skills and is responsible for programming and keeping several databases up to date (cash register- Point of Sale, At Your Request-room service)
• Must have a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office systems, as they are required to work in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Must have good problem solving skills
• Must communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
Work which produces levels of mental/visual fatigue which are typical of jobs that perform a wide variety of duties with frequent and significant uncontrollable deadlines. Work may include the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT up to 40 percent of the time.
Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (i.e., 20 pounds or less) and assisting with heavier tasks such as assisting in lifting and moving patients. Minor straining or fatiguing positions must be assumed, and some fatiguing physical motions are required.
• Develop and implement the short term and long term plans for the department with COO approval.
• Responsible for monitoring, evaluating and reporting on department goals.
• Responsible for developing, securing approval and administering budget for Nutritional Services and BLH Auxiliary Services.
• Reviews and monitors budget and reports to COO.
• Develops and administers policies and procedures for the unit/department.
• Participates in the development of department policies that include nursing or other departments.
• Primarily responsible for interviewing, hiring, developing, evaluating and disciplining all employees in department 1600.
• Responsible for assisting the BLH Auxiliary with recruiting, interviewing, and orientating new volunteers at BLH. Responsible for evaluating BLH Auxiliary.
• This position is responsible for managing the following operational areas (this includes monitoring volumes, quality of services provided, customer satisfaction and meeting regulatory requirements for all areas):
o BLH Cafeteria, BLH Food Services, BLH Diet Office, BLH Catering/Vending, BLH Inpatient and Outpatient Nutrition Services, BLH Auxiliary and Gift Ship.
• Establish operating standards for quality in the department
• Supports Lean Initiative- Manager rounding and attending daily DCI
• Provides leadership and recommendations on Auxiliary yearly functions and gift shop.
• Helps coordinate all employee appreciate events at BLH, makes sure all requirements are met, and organizes leader volunteers for events.
• Manages hospital petty cash fund, provides change as needed to other departments.
• Responsible for making sure all volunteers have met minimum yearly work requirements.
• May have to provide coverage for Dietitian when necessary.
• Manage all food service vendors and invoicing.
Driving your own vehicle on a regularly scheduled basis to perform business on behalf of Bronson is required for this position and will require successfully pass of MVR check after an offer of employment has been made but prior to the employee’s start date. Proof of valid auto insurance on that vehicle that will be driven while on duty for Bronson is required. It is the employee’s responsibility to submit auto insurance renewals before current coverage expires to their supervisor. It is also the employee’s responsibility to update their auto insurance coverage with Bronson if a different vehicle will be driven to perform business on behalf of Bronson.
